1,200hp 911 Turbo S aims for new speed record

Zef Eisenberg has done 200mph at Pendine on a bike; now he's aiming to repeat it in a car

The determination of some people you just can't help but admire. Last May Zef Eisenberg became the first person to exceed 200mph with a wheel-driven vehicle at Pendine Sands; using a supercharged Suzuki Hayabusa, he claimed the 'fastest bike on sand' record for the UK. In April he's hoping to go one better, by also setting a sand record with a car. Oh yes, and this is all after surviving Britain's fastest ever bike crash. At 230mph. Like we said, determined.

Following the 201.572mph he achieved on the bike, Eisenberg will need to better the 180.361mph set by Idris Elba in 2015, driving a Bentley Continental GT Speed. To try and do that he'll be using a 911 Turbo S specially modified for the task of hitting 200mph within a mile. That's 'specially modified' as in 'given loads more power': Eisenberg's MadMax racing team have increased the capacity - presumably stroked rather than bored, given space is tight back there - to 4.2-litres and fitted bigger turbos to give 1,200hp, or more than double standard. Apparently it was estimated that 750hp at the wheels would be sufficient on tarmac, but more would be required on sand because of the resistance.

As if that isn't enough, Eisenberg will also be back on the Hayabusa to try and surpass his own record in the same weekend. So that's fastest bike and fastest car on sand, in two days. Funnily enough he's proclaimed himself to have "well and truly caught the speed addiction". You don't say, Zef...

The record attempt will take place on the weekend of April 6th and 7th, with spectators welcome to watch at Pendine. Interestingly the 911 remains road legal, too, with the aim to drive it from the hotel to the beach, and back - hopefully - for a celebratory drink or two. Best of luck to all!

Good luck to him. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to launch a car on a soft surface.

Putting 1200 horses to the floor in tarmac is an achievemnt in itself. Doing that on sand... New undercrackers please biggrin

Fair play to him

The man is, as they say around here, ‘mental, mental, chicken oriental’!
If I had a cap I’d doff it to him, he has obviously got a huge supply of brave pills and cojones the size of cannon balls (and made from the same stuff!)
Doesn’t it do one good that in these dark days of Brexit-inspired doom and gloom, we have a character like this to give us a lift (Er, not as taking us on a journey, that would be scarier than anything at Alton Towers..)
I’m miles away from Pendine, but I’m seriously considering going to watch.
Good luck; Go on my son!

Must be the special 'block extensions' they use when boring cylinders out wink

I would check what you are likely to be able to see if you go.

I have timed a record attempt there. The public were down at one end of the very long beach, so all the high speed action (or at least a vehicle going fairly briskly) was far off in the distance.

- presumably stroked rather than bored, given space is tight back there -

WTF?!

Since when did boring an engine out make it bigger?!

Since forever?

Volume of a cylinder?

Given that the current 3.7 is based on the same block as the 3.0, there's presumably not much space between the cylinders, so they've stroked it instead? Anyone know?

I read it as physical space in the engine bay. Hopefully you are right, I am wrong, and PH journalism isn't that bad yet!

Ah, I never even thought of it that way. Who knows.

Hmm, I'm afraid I've got to the point where, although I like human endeavor to push the envelope, I don't think these sort of people should be encouraged.

There is no value to high speed trials on sand, apart from the inherent instability. He's not showing the capability of the bike, or the engine. Just a willingness to do something inherently risky for the sake of crowd adoration. And the faster he gets, the more likely he is to come off and the more people want to watch. It eventually won't end well. He might even escalate to trying it on ice if you all cheer hard enough.

Its only my personal opinion but I would no rather watch this then someone who decided to play Russian roulette and show it on TV for people to say how brave they were.

In other words I don't want to encourage someone who obviously has problems.
Especially after having nearly died once before.
