Mulliner creates Continental GT for Bavaria

Bespoke division is building a one-off drop-top for Bentley Munich, a dealer in one of its biggest markets

Bentley bespoke division Mulliner is creating a one-off version of the Continental GT Convertible for a dealership in Munich. The car is finished with details dedicated to the region; in a nod to the colours of Bavaria, for example, it features Glacier White paint with an Imperial Blue fabric roof, while the German state’s flag also features on the car’s front wings.

The W12 machine also gets its own Mulliner Driving Specification (don’t they all?), 22-inch wheels, and a chromed lower bumper in a nod to vintage Bentleys. Inside, the 635hp car’s Bavarian theme continues with state flag embroidery on the headrests and bespoke treadplates, while the leather seat stitching and dash veneer is white to match.

No changes have been made to the car’s powertrain or chassis, so the eventual buyer – almost certainly someone of the wealthy collector variety – will receive a model capable of sprinting to 62mph in 3.8 seconds and on to a 207mph top speed. Before it’s offered for sale, however, it’ll be presented by Mulliner to the dealer at a special event – something you might think is being organised to provide Bentley’s German sales a kick up the backside.

The British marque’s sales in Germany were down last year by a significant 38 per cent, with only 821 cars shifted there in 2018 after seven consecutive years of growth. The country still accounted for 26 per cent of Bentley’s sales in Europe, though, and it’s expected to experience a significant boost to overall deliveries this year with the Continental GT now fully launched and the cheaper V8 version set to arrive imminently. Perhaps the one-off Bavarian GT might help remind people that orders are already being taken…
