Abt unleashes 710hp Urus

You knew it was coming, and here it is - fabled Audi tuner gets to work on the Lambo SUV...

Nobody is ambivalent about the Lamborghini Urus, that's for certain. Whatever your perspective, it's unlikely that any car enthusiast is unsure of their opinion, nervously sitting on the fence and reluctant to confess. Marmite is the Lamborghini Urus of savoury spreads. And with that in mind, here's a modified version from German tuners Abt...

It was hardly going to take long, was it? The lovers can't get enough of the Urus, and a desire to make Lamborghinis go faster has been there for decades. Add into that the easy tunability of the twin-turbo V8 engine and there's an easy recipe for some sort of mayhem. Good or bad is, again, down to perspective.

So with nothing more than an 'Abt Engine Control' - which we would read as a new ECU calibration - the Urus now make 710hp and a frankly barmy 671lb ft. As standard the Urus was already toting 650hp and 627lb ft, with the upgrade sufficient for the Abt Urus to reach 62mph in 3.4 seconds and 189.5mph. To think this is before any intake or exhaust work, leave alone putting bigger turbos in...

Abt describes the work has "beautifully impressive", with a warranty offered with the AEC work to put any anxious minds at rest. As yet, there's no confirmation on UK pricing - or indeed availability - though it's easy to imagine some considerable demand for Abt's work, given their enviable reputation and the scope here to make those drag races wins even more emphatic. That said, prospective customers will need £200,000 just to get in any Urus, so pockets will need to be as deep as those torque reserves must be. Next stop 800hp...

I saw my first Urus a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully it will be my last last...
Not for me. Far to many air vents and an ugly front end. But then again that's Lamborghini for you.

I walk past Playground Games offices most days. (They make the Forza Horizon series for the gamers amongst you).
One of the bosses there has got a red one. It's growing on me, although I'm still not quite sure about the colour.

Lamborghini are celebrating making 5000 of these already.

That's got to be a success for them surely ?

Their failure is why it took so long to make one, SUVs have been the bulk of porsche sails since they started selling them

that colour really suites the car

Saw my first one recently and loved the look of it too. It hadn't been washed in ages by the look of things and it sounded fantastic. I'm a fan.

I don't understand the craze of taller, heavier, worse than standard supercars being something people actually buy.

The hashtag on their website is 'sincewemadeitpossible'. Surely Porsche did that with the Cayenne?

Lamborghini did have the LM002 though which was kind of the first performance suv type thing?

I’ve seen a few but only in yellow - have to admit though I’d love one!

Much nicer than the “James bond” cullinan I saw on the A1

Impressive figures, but just look at the state of the thing. What an opportunity missed.

Seen a bunch of them (and had a poke around inside one) and whilst I know the PH masses say I shouldn't, I am absolutely smitten by the things.

My personal take is that they are not actually as outrageous as people make them out to be. They are certainly not as over-styled as some of the Japanese manufacturers current offerings (Toyota in particular!) and not as gaudy as a Honda Civic Type R.

I think if you stay away from the crazy colours, they are a pretty handsome vehicle in the flesh.

As a side note, I also saw my first RR Cullinan in the flesh last weekend and that thing is absolutely ridiculous in all the right ways. biggrin I wouldn't have one, but I can see the appeal. An absolute house on wheels with so much interior luxury you'd not want to get out of the thing. Ha ha.

I've seen one as well.
Looks better than I expected.
Would not have it in white though. Or black, for that matter.

I'll take mine in yellow please, maybe with some different alloys as that's the only bit I'm not keen on.
