Price tag for 292hp Alpine A110S revealed

New leaner, meaner two-seat coupe goes on sale in the UK on Sept 3rd

Alpine has announced pricing for its upcoming A110S, and the increase for the range-topping sportscar is a pretty steep one. For an extra 40hp, high performance brakes, bespoke suspension settings and grippier Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, Dieppe wants £56,810.

That represents a sizeable increase over the £46,905 charged for the bare-bones Pure, but when you consider that the carbon fibre roof (a £2,208 option), active sports exhaust (£1,380) and carbon-backed bucket seats (£1,656) are all included along with the rest of the upgrades, that gap starts to close fairly quickly.

In addition to all its extra equipment, the S benefits from a 4mm reduction in ride height, springs and roll bars stiffer by 50 and 100 per cent respectively, and the weight loss which will coincide with all that carbon. The ESP has also been "recalibrated to take advantage of the even greater handling accuracy and improved grip", with Alpine insisting that the car's extra performance hasn't come at the cost of the surprising comfort and usability which make less costly variants so appealing.

Only a tenth faster to 62 (4.4 seconds) than the standard car, and with just a 6mph greater top speed, there'll likely be plenty of Alpine fans who feel the existing variants offer more than enough performance. For those in search of the most finely honed A110 out there, though, the S promises to make an already great car even better still. Order books officially open on September 3rd, with dealers taking reservations already.

How to make a nice car look bad, matte paint and black wheels (IMHO of course!)

Well if you name drop where the factory is, it lets everyone know you like your cars a lot, which is crucial for a car journo. confused

Do you remember, not so long ago, when PH would make a comment about errors that we'd spotted, along the lines of "Yeah, silly me" and jovially point out they had corrected it? I notice this has been corrected...

Perhaps the way I'm reading it, but that paragraph makes it sound like they're included as standard. They aren't. So if you wanted all of these then the car will cost you over £60k+.

That would be my opinion.

Also, it bears repeating: thank goodness for interesting and relatively affordable cars that don't happen to come from the usual suspects.

Stop f**king about & release a manual version, that should save a few KG's, probably more than a carbon fibre roof wink

Agree, a manual option would be worth paying extra for in a car like this, and the weight reduction would be a bonus.

Is a manual option in the plan at all for this car?

Or is all the architecture based on the auto/ DCT, therefore no manual gearbox and associated gubbins would fit?

As someone said the other day, this factory name business must be in an in joke. There's no way they can be doing it seriously, is there?!

Not so keen on the colour/wheel combo on this to be honest. The wheels don't suit the lines of the car for me. It's common as much in terms of these, but blue with silver wheels is a winning combo I htink.

compared to the standard model the S has....

50% stiffer springs
100% stiffer anti-roll bars

Those are some gigantic changes.

They look nice and it is nice having lighter driver focused cars about..... but likely mid-60k by the time options ticked! That seems quite strong for a the rejuvenated brand when looking at rival cars.

The gearbox automatically rules this car out as a purchase in any variant for me anyway. Also 60k for a 4 cylinder car also makes me wince a bit.

It’s great the car has been made, reviews seem okay and fair play to those who make this choice of car, but I see it as a brave choice.

£60k+ after options doesn't really matter does it? What are the currently at monthly? Considering that's how they'll all be bought, what will this one be monthly?

I think the spec of the press shot car looks great and I normally hate both matte paint and black wheels.

I think the standard car as is looks brilliant so I'm biased towards them anyway and they've got amazing reviews but it'll be interesting to see what 50% stiffer springs and 100% stiffer anti-roll bars does to the ride...

Same for me regarding the gearbox, but I do think that my bias towards three pedals and a stick rules out for me some very nice cars to be fair(I should probably be more open minded about two pedal cars).

£60k is very toppy for only a 4 cylinder engine(and a small one at that) I agree. I'm not a fan of Black wheels either because you lose all the detail of the wheel(although I've got two cars currently with Black wheels!! getmecoat).
