Aston gives the Valhalla its 'dynamic' debut

We've seen the Valkyrie on circuit; now it's the turn of Aston's other all-new mid-engine supercar

With all the fuss around the Valkyrie, Aston Martin's upcoming Valhalla has flown a little under the radar. But while the 1,176hp range-topper tends to draw the spotlight, as it did most notably during its recent dynamic debut before the British Grand Prix, the Valhalla is just as significant a car to its maker.

Because while only 150 road-going Valkyries will ever be produced, up to 500 Valhalla's are set to roll off the Gaydon production line over the coming years. They will bridge the gap between the Valkyrie and new Vanquish, the marque's first series-production mid-engined car, which will arrive in 2022 with the same twin-turbo V6 as used in the Valhalla.

Said to be "closely related" to its bigger brother, the Valhalla remains true to the same uncompromising engineering ethos, yet is designed to allow for more frequent road use and greater practicality. Using state-of-the-art F1 tech and "unrivalled" active aero, including variable morphing surfaces, the car is claimed to deliver equally impressive levels of handling performance. So while the output of its bespoke electrified V6 powertrain is yet to be revealed - beyond the suggestion that it will "surpass figures shown in today's hypercar world" - it's sure to contribute to some very quick lap times indeed.

The model is currently making its North American debut at the world-famous Monterey Car Week's 'Quail' display and, to celebrate the fact, Aston Martin has released a video showing it in motion for the first time. Alongside the Valkyrie, it's being put through its paces by Chirs Goodwin at the luxury marque's official development facility at Silverstone. Excited yet?

These things look next generation compared to all other super/hyper things. They have a purposeful function over form aesthetic that will give them longevity IMO.

Imagine if Lotus built a mini Valhalla...

A timely reminder to put the Euromillions on for tonight.

A erhm, dynamic presentation indeed. Way too ADHD for my taste. The car itself should be put up front in the soundmix. Video cut could do with a bit less dynamism (and less of the Valkyrie in this video about the Valhalla) as well.

The Cars look genuinely interesting but a pretty ropey video.
Fast cuts, engine bellowing as they pound around a short circuit.
Seen it all before a million times.
No drama, intrigue or indeed any idea.
The cars this interesting with names like that deserve something a little better.

Not pretty in fact it's downright ugly. Maybe it's a colour sensitive shape but in white it just looks odd

Duck-billed platypus.

That’s what I immediately see.

Distinctive, I guess

Both look absolutely stunning to me! Right up there with the F1 and P1 for best looking supercars ever made.

Don’t like the names. How are they linked to AM’s heritage?

Of course looks are subjective but to my eyes the Valkyrie looks good but the Valhalla looks all wrong. The Duck billed platypus is a good description. Just looks wrong to me.

Agreed. I'm quite taken by the new AM mid-engined cars and concepts actually. The Vantage Vision is definitely the best looking of the bunch, hope most of its shapes stay in tact in production form.

Why should names always be looking backwards? They have a V name, which is plenty.

Vanquish wasn't part of the heritage when it came out in 2000...

I was going to say pretty much the same thing! I suppose it illustrates the fact that a lot of people seem to take the same attitude to AM as they do to Defenders. That is that they think they should remain a pastiche of times gone buy, woefully uncompetitive and heavily compromised to please a small group of people who'll never buy them!

Looks wise if you could afford one car and one car only I don't think this would be it. Of course, if you can only afford one car if this type you are probably not rich enough to buy one.

Valkyrie I can almost, kinda understand people thinks OK. I think it looks pretty bad, but kinda see what people mean.

This Valhalla thing... oof. Platypus for sure. Not a pretty vehicle at all.

This place is a hotbed for extreme conservatism. It would be cute & quaint if it wasn't so depressing!

Sorry if I am being a bit thick, but what is the difference between the two cars?

They look the same to my eyes, is the red and black just a track version of the white one?

Rear shots best explain it - Full stretch under body aero vs. 'just' a honking big diffuser.
