McLaren 620R spy shots
Last week was the scoop; now here's the first look at the actual car
Things move pretty quickly in the world of McLaren; a few days ago nobody outside of Woking (and a handful of customers) knew about the 620R. Just last Friday, the initial details were released and now we have a set of spy pics, giving our first look at the car beyond those renders.
As expected, this is a Sports Series McLaren unlike any that we've seen before. There's a roof scoop as fitted on the MSO 600LT of last year, but also an enormous fixed rear spoiler that looks to be taken directly from the GT4 race car. The same would appear to be true for the heavily ducted bonnet and front end, the flics and ground-scraping splitter present and correct.
Other points of note include the wheels, which seem unfamiliar from any other McLaren (presumably forged for the sake of lightness), as well as what appear to be Senna seats inside. A few seconds of Googling suggests that 'MV' is a McLaren tag for any vehicle project; your guess is as good as ours as to the '1302' part of the name.
Anyway, that's the latest on what looks like being another intriguing McLaren supercar. Given how quickly the 620R endeavour appears to be progressing, hopefully there won't be long to wait to know more. Does it come in orange?

I really like this.
Not sure if I've eaten the wrong mushrooms, but for the first time I can actually see a resemblance to the F1 in a modern Mclaren. Overall shape/proportions/'compactness' seem very familiar, and bloody nice.
The Sports Series (540C, 570S, 570GT, spiders, etc.) are the equivalent to the Porsche 911 range. All variants of the same car, on the same chassis.
Then there's the Super Series, which is massively different (I'd be amazed if someone confused a 540C with 720S) in looks and spec - even if on paper it looks very similar.
I really don't understand the confusion over the Mclaren range.

The comparison with Porsche is fair. All 911s are similar. All McLarens share that engine and carbon tub.
However, Porsche also make SUVs and a large 4 seater.
Still surprises me that McLaren haven't dipped a toe, even in concept form, into making a Vanquish/ 812 competitor. They could still use that engine, just bung it in front of the drivers feet.
How about a Shooting brake?
SUV?
Theyd sell st loads of those!

Chassis and engine is massively different between Sports and Super series, along with a pretty major change to the suspension setups - no arbs on Super.
I think the problem is, as you say, they only make mid engined two seaters, at a massive range of different levels. That's changing soon though (they're bringing out a mid engined three seater!).
An SUV, with the clever interconnected suspension could be a very good shout - but at what development costs?
Let's not forget, they haven't exactly been around for long.
So like Porsche then. 23 varients of the 911.........
All the whinging on here, jesus.
Love the scoop, should release it with those wheels and rear spoiler as is.

I wonder what it would look like in a nice dark metallic green?
