been eyeing these up myself.
what's the catch ?, they seem cheap, £300k less than the RS one
A GT3 with a turbo but very rare, it's one of the few cars I have not been in let alone driven, but to me looks a great car.
I really fancy one.
Leeds have a 9k mile one in atm, why do these not sell ?
i have 996 GT2 ex Rob Huff upgraded Turbo,s, inlet manifold, fuel pump and Matched exhaust manifolds and Tubi Exhaust all upgrades done in 2007 Im into 6 yrs ownership and i Drive car, looking for stable mate as i weigh 130kg i kill any P/W ratio. I'm 70 and expect god willing another 10 yrs squeezing into a car (I'm 1.96mtr tall). 997 is a fit 996 had to modify.996GT2 is a great drive!what's the catch ?, they seem cheap, £300k less than the RS one

so options are 991 GT3 RS or a 997GT2 Club sport. lots ways different cars. I have my eye on 997GT2 but garage not responding to my enquiries. Presently in USA so im in no rush. On my return should 997GT2 be still available ill go see,
As GT3RS are 2 a penny in comparison itll be down to spec and price .

Keep the 6 GT2 and add a GT3 RS
God I’m a wimp
me too but thinking maybe i need to drive an all singing digi car as complete contrast to the GT2 that i have. I also have a supercharged 500 Griff which to be honest due to Torque great fun I need to drive a GT3 RS before i choose.God I’m a wimp
Not getting into resale values who cares at my age to own drive and enjoy i have always been attracted to rare cars.

It’s so far removed from the comfort of a turbo primarily because of motorsport clutch and overly firm ride quality so they’re really weekend cars. Hardly any differences with 7 GT2 RS other than a remap so a relative bargain. Its a bit hard core for most.
Completely agree ive put 3k on my GT2 this year that and supercharged Griff are my daily drivers. But agree Clutch is heavy thats why i try to keep fit! a necessity to get my frame into these cars.

I’m feeling very unmasculine. One geezer with a 996 and 997 GT2 and another thinking of buying both and dd a supercharged TVR and 996 GT2 zooped up by Ruf.
Where did it all go wrong?
ha Ha I must contact Stef whom has both not supped up by RUF car had that reg on it somewhat of a misnomer .If you want cheap fun get a well sorted TVR 500! Porsche is supposed put out 600BHP however it feels quite tame compared to Griff maybe thats just sensation you get from a 400bhp at wheels fibreglass all torq monster. The Porsche can be quite deceiving. I actually enjoy the firm suspension of the GT2 however the roads are quite atrocious in some areas of Ribble Valley.Where did it all go wrong?

I have both. I like the 997 safety nannies which are modern enough to be helpful but not intrusive. Last pure driving experience imo. The perfect weapon for the track.
Nice one Stef and from your post although not driven a 997 with safety nannies i feel you are correct in your assessment and goes in line with my expectations. My 996GT2 is putting out around 600bhp to be verified with Wayne Schofield planning a RR run when i get back to UK. Hes local and has a good rep for tuning Porsches. Ill keep you posted on what i finally purchase hoping that its still for sale come Dec 2020.Porsche911R said:

A few years ago I did the GT day at Silverstone PEC. Drove a 997.2 GT2, 997.2 GT2 RS and 997.2 GT3 RS back to back. We were supposed to drive the RS 4.0 but it was back in Germany for some remedial work. Experiences etched in the memory.what's the catch ?, they seem cheap, £300k less than the RS one

Anyway, the GT2 was lively enough and then I got in the GT2 RS, which was frankly intimidating, noting that we're only talking here about the handling circuit at PEC! I think as a drivers' car the 2RS would challenge even the very best of drivers. Probably why Mark Webber was a fan! I've driven some fairly fast stuff over the years including plenty on track and I'm generally ok with a car steering from the rear but that said I'm not sure one could ever fully settle with the GT2, particularly the 2RS. It's "seat of the pants" exciting but the way the turbos spool up you need to be on your guard at all times. Basically I adopted the "make sure the front wheels are pointing in a forwards direction before properly booting it" approach, which was fun for a while but a question mark over the long term attraction. Now you might just put this own to me being a pussy (fair enough) but one thing I would say is that it does not feel like a GT3 with a Turbo! It defo deserves its widowmaker tag.
The 3S on the other hand was much more tactile and approachable. Ever since that day I've always found the GT2 RS pricing baffling. I get the build numbers thing but from a driving experience point of view the 3RS is way better than either flavour of GT2 IMHO. I admired the sheer straight line pace of the GT2 and GT2RS but not sure I could covet either in the same was as the 3RS.
Based on your previous postings on your preferences in a Pork I'd hazard a guess than the GT2 would be a bit of a letdown.
Only one way to find out....

One has to remember this cars time period 2008, some 12 years ago. A lot has changed with the performance envelope literally running away at an alarming rate.
Back then the GT2 certainly felt rapid. Not just that in isolation - it felt fairly light on its toes, lively and eager with great handling prowess.
I liked hearing the blowers spin up too. Never felt too unhinged. Always great poise and handling with a wicked turn of speed. To me, very much a mix of RS and Turbo. Great car - and as you say, always looks value compared to the GT2 RS
