Travel vouchers for a gift

Stumped with what to buy my mother for her 70th this month. She has always said she wants to travel more so was thinking of some kind of voucher for her and the old boy to go somewhere nice when the world opens up again.

Any recommendations on the best place to buy travel vouchers, somewhere that’s financially stable and has a wide range of places to choose from? I was just going to buy £1000 with Virgin Holidays but thought it worth asking on here first.

I’d be wary of buying vouchers for anything at the moment, what with so many companies going bust.

As mentioned, best to avoid getting vouchers/credit for anything right now. If a business enters administration that voucher could be worth less, or nothing. (as evidence by the recent vouchers with arcadia group)

Vouchers will force your mum into that 1 brand. As others have said, it also comes with a risk!

could you make up a "i will pay for a nice holiday" coupon yourself ? keep the money in the bank until theyre ready to go

DO NOT BUY VOUCHERS as a gift. Maybe give her a card with a relevant picture or travel guide. Then sort out the travel as and when.

As said already, I wouldn't do vouchers, even for 'big brands'...

I'd think buying vouchers with a credit card would protect you if they go bust?

Pretty unanimous replies. I was going to buy on a credit card and from one of the industry giants so hopefully would have been ok but I take on board this level of “stop...are you mad?” feedback.

Just giving her the cash feels weird. I’ll have to think about it.

I'd give her a virtual voucher for the holiday / flight etc.

And when she chooses where to go you can buy the tickets with a lot less exposure.

Do you have kids? if so get them to make a card and some vouchers for your parents stating they can be cashed in for a holiday,i'm sure they will appreciate this from grandkids more
