Not really surprised that it spawned a race car, more how damn successful it was!

Gets my vote.

As cool as the 6R4 and Renault 5 Maxi are, they really have bugger all to do with the original car.

That was the idea of the thread! I suppose we could start another one entitled ' Natural Born Racers'?

This trabant is a pretty weird adaptation.

The most weird I've seen was at Donington, it was a Tatra like this one below...

Good call on the Renault 5 and the Subaru Impreza, in particular. How about from this:

(I've driven one -- it's pants, and they don't even do a V8 IIRC!)
to this:

Mind you, this is getting into the realms of silhouettes.

I guess by "race" you mean "race and rally"?

The Impreza pictured is the nicest shape IMO. Or a close second to the WRC97 in tarmac spec, anyway.

I agree the original (actually I think it's a '95 but close enough ) is the best.

But in that case, we could include stock/drag cars that really, really have *nothing* to do with the original save for the name and a plastic body shell.

The Fiat is great. It's still a 500, just a nutty one.
