space frame VW replacement chassis plans
Discussion
Do a search for rorty designs, he sells plans for a mid-mounted V8 chassis with double wishbones all round for a bug. There is a guy on www.germanlook.com forum adapting it for a 4.2 Audi V8 engine and corvette front suspension..

He is using late model aluminium vette arms so not as bad as it sounds, nice source for lightweight components..
and with his 20" 'show' wheels, too big IMO..

that's a Rorty chassis ??
Yes, predominantly based on the Rorty plans with some tweaks for different suspension. Mr Rorty makes an appearance on the build thread..
I'm looking forward to seeing how he gets on as I am thinking about using that engine/trans in a future phantom upgrade.

I'd still like to find some plans for a rear engine tube frame beetle replacement.
In looking for inspiration I came across this:
www.psychoform.com/htmlgallery/WRC1.htm
Obviously I'm not going to steal his design, but I am certianly drawn to the look and feel of it. I'd need to redraw it with more of a P-car look and feel, and I would retain the 'all-road' style and build it with that criteria. A Dakar like inspiration.
A Rorty chassis, with mods to allow more wheel travel and a bit higher ride height would be doable I guess/suppose?? thoughts ??
