Mclaren Mercedes SLR

Full set of piccies

After many teaser shots and numerous magazines publishing spy shots of the SLR laden with disguises we now get to see the new monster in all its glory.

The powerful GT car draws upon many of Mercedes classic cars for its design influence. Whether it will be perceived as an object of beauty of extravagence remains to be seen.

Full technical details have yet to be released but it is well known that it will be powered by a 5.4 litre V8 breathed on by AMG. Power will be a monstrous 600bhp.

The SLR will make its official debut in the Autumn.

Is it just me.. or is anyone else left totaly 'cold' by this car?

I wanted a ford GT as soon as i saw one.. ditto the 360 stradale, and the lambo gallardo. I even like the new 911 RS lightweight thingie. But this.. just looks to me like an SL for people with more money than sense.

Am i the only one?

I know exactly what you mean -

Not convinced at all.

The baby Lambo is a must tho.

Leaves me cold, which is a shame cos the SL55 is a thing of beauty.

Does the rear in the first shot remind anyone else of a Ka?

in those pics it looks ridiculously long and out of proportion.

Hmmm, not impressed either.

Seems to have a little too much messy to me.

Perhaps if they made the bonnet a bit longer

Im sure this seemed like a good idea for Mc back when they first startedto plan it but the SL55 came along and kind of spoiled the party (a little) ok its more powerful and must be a lot lighter than the SL but it really seems kind of redundant in a way,,,left hand knowing what the right hands doing or what

From the "is it just me Dept."...but have Chrysler productus become so much better while MB's are really beginning to resemble dead fish?
The new Jeep Liberty - yes, the Chrysler Pacifica (makes even me want a mini van), the SLR,,,hahahahaha

Agree with the general sentiment here.

MB seem unable to shake the 'safeness' out of their design and inject some madness.

Seems okay, personally I like the rear design and esp like the side exit exhausts just infront of the passengers door though if I had to chose it would be the baby Lambo over this....

edited to add cover the front three quarters and the rear looks like the little hatchback merc - c-class coupe or something which is a bit shanty

It is not the stunner I thought it would be. IMHO they have tried to get too much in there, probably because it is such a defining car. think it might be good in black though.

I generally agree with everyone here, but I imagin it may be like the Enzo - until you stand next to one you don't really 'get it'...

The reason for the long bonnet is that is has the engine BEHIND the front wheels.

So does this make it mid engined, strictly speaking?

are those side exit exhaust legal?

if they are why don't TVR and the like use them, it'd cure a lot of the cabin heat issues we've all suffered from

Oh yeah, very difficult to comment on a new car from pictures alone, personally I was more interested in how the hell they carved that rock face like that

Well, I for one really like it, although I have to say the interior (or at least the dashboard) looks like a new Beetle's!!

I love the proportions, especially the loooooooong nose. I like the look of the new Ferrari 460 for the same reason.
