Coutts account

Was part of NatWest, now RBS group. They are good for personal service - you are allocated to someone who will act as a liaison with you and the rest of the banking team so that you aren't speaking to a different person every time you call. I don't rate their IB stuff though, far better seeking a specialist outfit for that - I can highly recommend one of the well established smaller private banks in Geneva.
As for the entry requirements, figures quoted earlier are way off. They are a commercial organisation and if they think the income the can generate from you minus the costs of providing the service leaves a good enough margin, you're in.

They have an office in Bournemouth and Winchester but they are just offices and not Branches.
Didn't know they had any physical Branches outside of London?
Oxford High Street sports a Coutts, if I'm not mistaken..Didn't know they had any physical Branches outside of London?

You have to be invited to have a Coutts World Card, which is effectively just a charge card and concierge etc. but unless you do a lot of travellling I can't really see any benefit in it.
Coutts world card economics are similar to Amex Black card -- if you have a big family that does lots of travelling (especially lots of sport) then the insurance cover basically pays for the cardIf you are a single guy then the £600 fee gets you nothing you cant get elsewhere for far less

BTW one quite cool service some of these cards offer you is that they will SMS you with the details every time your Mrs spends any money.

now owned by RBS but to open an account you must have a minimum of £500,000 investable assets or £5,000,000 net assets.
TBH bit pointless as it marks you as a target
Or go to Slough Grammar.TBH bit pointless as it marks you as a target
Providing you spend £50k you dont get charged any annual fee and as mentioned the whole family is covered under the travel insurance regardless of whether or not you purchased the holiday with the card or not, well worth the fee in my opinion should you not spend the required amount.
Coutts are supposed to be bringing out a new card with even higher benefits than the World card not sure when though.
Any bankers on here??

Dont trust your data with Coutts.
Used to work for a bank that shard a datacentre for a while.. well we bought a business and had to decomission.
No security in the datacentre whatsoever. Anyone could walk in and access the hardware.
All of that data should be held in the RBS data centres up in Edinburgh now. Both locations are like Fort Knox.Used to work for a bank that shard a datacentre for a while.. well we bought a business and had to decomission.

It’s not the £600 that matters – it’s the principle of getting ripped off that matters
I'm with you on this one. I like to do my own research when booking hotels, holidays and restaurants etc. Doug Richard (Dragon's Den) expressed the same views when someone pitched a subscription based lifestyle website and he's not short of a bob or two. I'm quite involved with Coutts - they're a good outfit in my view. I'm up there next week as it happens doing some consultancy. It's quite 'old fashioned', in a nice way.
I was chatting to one of their advisors a few months ago who told me why they put fence things round their fish ponds in the lobby. Apparently, some time ago, when there were runners (with their top hats an' all) one came running in from another bank with his document in hand and "splash" he ran into one of the little ponds - which are quite deep I'm told. Quick as a flash he jumps out (totally sodden, still with top hat on and hardly breaking his stride), runs up to the counter and delivers his package without saying a word and runs out. People just watched in bemusement at the sight. Dunno whether it's true or not, but I'd like to think it is!
Regarding branches, they're part of Nat West and you can use their branches if there's not a Coutts one nearby. Also, the entry criteria is not what has been said on this thread. The threshold is much lower.

I seem to remember that Coutts' charges (for things like cheques) on personal accounts were very high.
I can't really see that they offer much more than the high street stuff like HSBC Premier (the only real benefit of which is avoiding having to speak to Mr Gupta when you need to speak to them, and the travel insurance).

I too question the 'benefits' of some cards. I have an i24 card which comes with concierge service, free access to all Priority Pass lounges, cashback, travel insurance etc. However, it also comes with a £250 annual charge and I could probably get all the benefits for less elsewhere. The cashback covered the annual charge last year though, so I suppose it's not really 'cost' me.
Other than that, it's just a credit card. The concierge service is quite cool though.
Oh, and it doesn't just get delivered in an envelope, either..
It's a gimmick, but a good one..

from experience, the Coutts actually has more power than the AMEX Black now..
Mates couldn't queue jump the sandersons Purple Bar with the Black, but the Coutts meant straight in, AND a table...
I can't help wondering how much of a massive penis you need to be to start waving a credit card around to jump a queue into a bar?! Mates couldn't queue jump the sandersons Purple Bar with the Black, but the Coutts meant straight in, AND a table...
