Bentley Reports Record Profit

Sales are at an all time high too

Bentley has announced record profits for 2007 under the guidance of Volkswagen Group.

Net revenue was raised by €36 million or 2.7% when compared with 2006 giving a record breaking total of €1.37 billion. Operating profit increased too with a growth of 13.1%, or €18 million, giving a new record profit of €155 million.

It wasn't only profits that were breaking records, sales were too. In 2007 Bentley sold 10,014 units, breaking the 10,000 mark for the first time in its history and showing a global sales increase of 7%. The UK market alone recorded sales increases of 7% with Europe growing by the same amount. North America saw a 4% growth and and incredible 93% growth was recorded in China.

Commenting on these financial results, Bentley Chairman and CEO, Dr Franz-Jozef Paefgen, said: “2007 was a milestone in the history of Bentley as we passed the 10,000 units for the first time. Five years ago we were selling only 1000 units but the development of a strong product line has seen the Company attract new customers in greater numbers. 2007 saw strong growth both in mature markets, such as Germany, the UK and the US, as well as in emerging markets, such as China and Russia.”

Dear Bill Ford,

See what can be done when you buy a British car company and run it well, with the products people want to buy.

But jobs here. If VW have managed to turn Bentley around then why shouldn't they take the rewards from that? Bentley didn't seem to be doing so well under British ownership.

Good on them IMO.

Absolutely. Never seen so many people in Crewe smiling and driving round in nice 'car scheme' cars.

VW have made that factory into something that people are proud to work in.

Looking through your past posts, I think you may well be the most negative and miserable person on Pistonheads.

Well done smile

Agreed, this is great news. If only some of the other ailing British marques were saved in time.

I got to sit in, and rev, an Azure last week. Definitely the most awesome (literally) car I've seen in a while, made the Conti GTC feel a bit cheap in comparison. Torquiest V8 on the planet, pretty impressive the way 3 tons of car rocked when booted, and a lovely sound too.

Seems like a good company to work for too (as a careers/tech presentation was the reason for getting to poke around expensive cars, best lecture in a while laugh)

Now...about that bank job/winning lottery ticket wink

It would be nice to have the jobs and the profits. When the going gets tough firms seem to be happy to close down overseas factories first.

British ownership and management had their (numerous) chances and failed. If you want some of that profit, buy some VW shares. I'd rather it be foreign owned and in existence than British owned but bust.

British ownership/management failed because, unlike their foreign rivals, it never had the same level of government support. Look at Renault, say no more.

Sold just as it was starting to make money though.
