720bhp Avro Ford GT

Avro 720 Mirage limited to just 10 cars

Brooklands-based Avro Motor Cars has joined forces with Roush Technologies to create a strictly limited edition of the Ford GT called the Avro 720 Mirage.

Limited to just 10 cars this special edition GT is finished in metallic orange and has 720bhp.

The car is restricted to 220mph and has features such as a deleted rear bumper to save weight.

Central to the increased power is a larger – and polished – Whipple supercharger.  The induction side of the engine also includes an Accufab throttle body and inlet sleeve.  An Accufab X pipe exhaust system with ceramic-coated tips is also fitted.  Other engine equipment includes a Mafia MAF sensor adaptor and a transmission breather catch tank.

The front and rear track is 5mm wider than the standard car.

The front brakes use AP Racing 6-pot front callipers with Stillen drilled and slotted rotors – and similar rotors are used also at the rear.

The suspension has been lowered by 25mm – and uprated to include KW’s Variant 3 fully adjustable coil-over system.

Avro Managing Director, Andy McGrath said: ‘When we created the highly successful Roush 600RE edition, we recognised the potential in the car to go a step further.

‘The Ford GT is already a rare and sought after motorcar and simply identifying and locating more available untitled vehicles has been a significant challenge for us.

‘The 720 Mirage is available exclusively from Avro – and once these cars are completed, we believe there will be no more.

‘Examples of our 600RE edition are now located in several parts of the world – and we expect the market response to the 720 Mirage to be similarly international.’

So sought after that there were still 10 `untitled` cars still available?

Erm, not quite smile

They are trying to source untitled vehicles (eg new) to complete the run of ten.

'Ceramic coated' is actually more compelling than 'rolled on the thigh of a nubile Brazilian virgin' smile

Whipple..biggrin..laugh, Accufab..wink and Mafia..confused,...who names these items?

A limited Edition of 10, I don't know how many modern GT40's Ford have made? But there's Limited Edition, Rare, as rare as hens teeth and now, 10.

Art Whipple and Felix Wankel. The odd names (as you know wink ) are always named after people.

Surely this car is a joke. An Ultima GTR720 can be had for something like £40,000 if you build it yourself, or £65,000 from the factory. Its also a lot lighter, and a lot faster.

What a waste this car is.

What if someone wants a Ford GT custom build though?

It is a free world after all.

(The Ultima is a great car, but in looks (exterior and interior) the GT is well ahead.)

Is it true that it needs to stop and refill to complete one lap of the Nordschleife?

No. You'll get 3 to 4 laps from a tank.

I believe the total worldwide build of the Ford GT to be 4500 vehicles over 3 years.
Only 28 cars were to UK spec and were offered on a lottery basis. But of course most went to high profile people...Clarkson,Alan Mann ( original GT40 entrant0 and Calamity James the England goalie etc

Named after the German engineer who invented it - not Mazda!

Thats a lot of power in a short wheel base..... I know there are others but was the GT40 built with that much power in mind??? Is it really going to be stable at 220mph? I have heard that the nose starts to lift on the new shaped gt at 180mph plus..... I am not sure this is a wise move....

I would still have a CCXR any day over this though (yes yes i know there is a little price difference!)
