No compression in cylinder

Long time lurker here,
I need some rather urgent advice.
I have a 4 cylinder B series Honda VTEC engine and I have an issue with one of my cylinders not having any compression.
I am currently in Germany and pretty much all garages are closed until tuesday. I'm here for another three weeks visiting friends so I could do with some advice if possible.
Driving yesterday the engine sounded like it was misfiring so this morning I got a breakdown guy to come and look at it. The spark plug in cylinder 1 looked shot and a compression test on that clinder showed it had no compression accorfing to him.
Any ideas on what this could be down to? He put some kind of sensor with a dial on the top (with the spark plug out) before he told me there was no compression.
ANy advice you can provide would be very much appreciated. I need to get it fixed asap. Some quick googling led me to believe it could be piston rings. The engine previous burnt some oil, a liter every 1000 miles.

If you have no compression then you almost certainly have a mechanical problem which will require dismantling to diagnose and repair. It could be a severely worn cam, something broken in the valve train, a burned valve. It could be a burnt/holed piston, knackered rings etc but these would result in very obvious symptoms (lots of smoke, and power loss) as well. A leakdown test would give you a better idea whether the problem was at the top (valves) middle (gasket) or bottom (bore/rings/piston). You can speculate about what the problem is likely to be, but at the end of the day you're going to have to get in there to find out. Sadly anything bad enough to have a big effect on the compression is likely to be a pretty fundamental problem.

On the B series Vtec unit it is likely to be a burnt valve/s,have you checked that the piston and that the conrod as not been spat off the crankshaft(can happen if constantly run on a low sump oil level)never seen one with a holed piston or rings so bad that it lost all compression though(or failed camshaft/wear)good luck.I need some rather urgent advice.

It's not a job only a dealer can do so find a recommended local garage.
If the problem came on over a period of time then it could be rings but more likely a burnt valve. If compression was OK in other cylinders and nothing blew the water out then it is not likely to be a head gasket.
If it just happened then a broken valve spring gets my vote.

What engine and car is it?
If its just one cylinder and there is NO compression, not just low then the chances are that something is seriously damaged
I wouldnt have the engine repaired unless you really trust the garage.
Swapping to a second hand engine will be much cheaper (in most cases) so if you have nothing to do tomorrow check owners clubs, ebay and breakers for a repalcement engine.
