Everybody on the estate at the moment are worried they could be next on the hit list, then when things like this happen and there is a real chance of catching the s........well i just give up i really do!!!!!!!

Sorry to hijack this thread.smile
I think, in your case, as you are genuinely entitled to know what can and can't be done, a letter raising the query would be in order.

Anybody know what the cost is then off hand as I can then give this figure to them. They can then kick asses in the right direction. That's if they haven't already done so.

Cheers.
have not got the current scales, however, it depends what info is required (as in how much detail/time it takes etc).

that said, I would suggest your looking at less than a fiver for a simple calls list to a number (within a given date etc)
Remember, you have to add the police admin time plus funding for Jaqui Smith's expenses and probably APCO's "take" on top of that wink - Streaky

A friend of the family has been on the receiving end of crank calls from a withheld number. BT have advised that for the previous calls, they can't do anything. The last time the prankster called, he was firmly told that the Police would be getting involved.

Do the police have any way of tracing the previous calls or can they only work from the new ones?
Yes they can as I understand it. There is still a record held by BT/the exchange which the police can access... IIRC it happens for harassment cases.

Pretty easy for them to trace unless the crim is using something like ANI spoofing, which is what the guy in the states who was calling SWAT teams to people's houses was using, and is likely now about to become someone's girlfriend in prison. In all likelyhood they are just withholding their number so it will just take one operator 30 seconds to look them up and write it on a postit. If you can route the call to a VOIP provider there is also a good chance that the VOIP provider will still recieve the caller's ANI regardless of them blocking it from your caller ID...
