Tramontana R Edition

New Spanish supercar for those who want to look like Batman for the day

If you want something that looks a bit different – and we mean if you find a Caparo or Ariel Atom a bit visually unexciting – then how about this, the Tramontana R Edition.

Looking like a cross between the Batmobile and a giant insect this supercar-baiting two-seater is from small independent Spanish manufacturer the Tramontana Group.

It packs a Mercedes-sourced 5.5-litre V12 in either 550bhp normally-aspirated form or 760bhp twin-turbocharged guise (which also has an kidney-crushing 811lb ft of torque). The car is derived from a standard open-wheel two-seater and the wheelbase has been shortened by 50mm to improve handling and aerodynamics.

It weighs 1,259kg and weight distribution is a perfect 50:50 split. The car is fitted with 20” carbon fibre wheels and has six-pot Brembos to bring it to a stop. The ride height can be adjusted between 85 and 135mm.

Inside there is lashings of exposed carbon fibre and an LCD instrument panel. The more powerful car will accelerate to 62mph in 3.6 seconds and hits 125mph in 10.15 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 202mph.

All this will set you back €385,000 and the car will make its official debut at the Top Marques Monaco show at the end of March.

That's as shed load of money for something that impractical that takes 3.6 seconds to 62. It had better go around corners very, very fast to warrant that kind of money. I'm very undecided on the looks too, although mad and exciting, the fighter plane cockpit and front end just look wrong.

Looks like someone has grafted some wheels onto an F16 cockpit. Can't decide if that's a good or bad thing!

I thought that, but if you consider that those are 20" wheels, I'm guessing the whole car is actually bigger than first impressions would indicate.

"...you ain't got no alibi"

Is this the same company that produce a high-spec., high-price Caterham-style model? [featured in Evo magazine a few months ago]. That was more interesting but this just looks wrong and weighs too much. But what price exclusivity?!

Is it just me or does the 0-125 time look a bit lame for having all those horses and all that torque AND weighing less than a dieting ballerina.

An ultima GTR would kill that to 125 IIRC that get's to 100 in around 5.5????

I saw the original one up close in the carbon at Le Mans last year, waiting to take part in the Drivers Parade.

It is stunning, but as mentioned, HUGE! It is very wide and there are some ungainly angles artfully concealed in those shots.
At the end of the day, that massive V12 does take up a lot of space.

BTW, the other "Caterham"-like Spanish car is made by another new company, IFR and is called the Aspid. Also stunning with some beautiful engineering.

It looks like the passenger sits behind the driver rofl

I am absolutely digging that idea, but I get the feeling that if I ever owned one, I would be hooning across north yorkshire with my "co Pilot" and suffering a severe Top Gun moment around the Blubberhouses hehe

You WILL lose your license biglaugh

I think it looks pretty cool, especially the fighter cockpit! However as others have said looking at the stats seems a bit heavy and slow.
