Red 5 Returns To Racing With Mansell
Our Nige's Ginetta will be sporting the classic number at this weekend's LMS race
Nigel Mansell's return to competitive motorsport for this weekend's Autosport 1000km of Silvertsone endurance race will be accompanied by the return of another motor racing legend - the 'Red 5' race number.
The iconic red number '5' - forever associated with Mansell and his Formula One career with Williams - makes its racing comeback on Our Nige's Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S LMP1 car.
Ginetta boss Lawrence Tomlinson said: "It was too good an opportunity to miss and we simply had to make sure the car was re-numbered to 'Red 5' in honour of having Nigel compete in a Ginetta. We're thankful to Le Mans Series organisers for letting us make this change and I hope Mansell supporters old and new will relish the opportunity to have a chance to cheer on the Red 5 once again!"
Taking the wheel of the Ginetta Zytek with his dad will be Greg Mansell.
Make sure you go for a good walk round the whole circuit - there are some great vantage points up by Club and Stowe, not to mention standing on the bridge at Bridge corner and hearing / feeling the cars thunder underneath you.
PS I'm going too

little tip walk the oppersite way to the cars last year when the pug had the crash on back straight and nearly took off i was right before the bridge and only saw the back of it shot by in the air!!! i'm walking other way so i can see whats coming and really hope there'll be more/better food drink places
My attendance this weekend was planned last year, so not affected by it.
Best of luck finding anything to eat or drink between about Bridge corner and Copse..... There's usually the square root of bugger all round there, even at events like the Classic.

They might shift a few tickets on the back of the Family Mansell, but i reckon it will be a lot quieter than 2008.

Should be a good race, I'm kinda hoping for rain for a repeat of the Minassian / McNish rain dance in 2005. Probably the greatest drives I've seen in sportscars.
