New 911 Turbo S Revealed

Extra power and highest spec for new 911 Turbo range-topper

Porsche has revealed a new top-of-the-range 911 for customers who it says will only settle for the very best in terms of power, performance and driving dynamics: the 911 Turbo S.

At the heart of the model is the latest six-cylinder boxer with twin variable turbine turbos, but boosted by 30bhp to a total of 530bhp. Maximum torque goes up to 516 lb-ft, and the new top model comes as standard with all the bells and whistles available only as options on the regular 911 Turbo.

So the Turbo S comes with a seven-speed PDK gearbox and Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive. Other features from the Turbo include Dynamic Engine Mounts and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) including a mechanical differential lock on the rear axle.

In conjunction with Launch Control on the Sport Chrono Package Turbo (also featured as standard),the 911 Turbo S accelerates from a standstill to 62mph in 3.3 seconds and reaches 124mph in 10.8 seconds. Top speed is 195 mph. Lightweight and fade-resistant Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) provide the stopping power.

The kit list also includes Dynamic Bending Lights, 19-inch RS Spyder design wheels with central locking, a three-spoke sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles, adaptive sports seats, cruise control, a CD/DVD changer and exclusive twin-tone leather upholstery in Black/Crema or Black/Titanium Blue.

It's the first new Turbo S model in five years, and will be at dealerships as both a Coupé and Cabriolet as of May 2010. Prices for the Turbo S are £123,623 for the coupé and £130,791 for the cabriolet, so about £21k more than the standard Turbo.

The trouble with evolution is that its really hard to focus on the one you really want and go for it.

Compared to most Porsche interiors - I think they've actually done quite a nice job, for a change ... except the for the steering wheel which looks totally horrendous.

How is it posible to be left so cold by a car which on paper would get you running around the room going "whoo hoo"?

Sounds Epic, however, wouldnt an extra 21 grand get you more from one of the aftermarket tuners, ok missing the point somewhat but in terms of raw numbers you could get more for less.

I may of course be wrong, but if you added up the cost of the extras, such as PCCB, the wheels, power upgrade, interior mods etc I reckon it wouldn't be too far off £21k.

Like. Black with black/cream please.

Not sure I see the point? Are you even going to notice the extra few HP when it has so many anyway? On top of that, it's just like ticking a few options and with this you can't even delete the questionable leather treatment? I suppose you get the "S" on the back..

I lost the thread of the 911 years ago. Now it's just "a 911".

Can you get one with an old fashioned gearbox (i.e. a clutch pedal)

Probably but then you would no longer have a valid warranty.

Surely an aftermarket tuner could give you bigger gains for a lot less cash...
