Pic Of The Week: Ferrari 458 Italia

McLaren's in the news, but Ferrari's got the best views (so far...)

With excitement over the new McLaren 12C reaching fever pitch this week the car was an obvious choice for Pic Of The Week, right?

Well, maybe. But you know what? We're still waiting for that first mind-blowingly gorgeous, lasciviously indulgent image of this new Ferrari 458 competitor. Let's call it the McLaren 'girl from Ipanema' picture, the one that makes us say 'aaaaaah...'

While the carefully stage-managed introduction still focuses on the technology elements of the new British contender - undoubtedly its greatest strength - we can't fault the logic. So as long as McLaren Automotive doesn't become a brand where 'winning' means the head always has to rule the heart, we'll be happy bunnies.

Meanwhile here's a 458 pic for your desktop to remind us all about the sort of good stuff the 12C is up against.

Me too. Don't understand why people are saying its the best Ferrari since the 355...

Akward lines, akward grille and horrible lights. Hmm.

I've found that post-550, they've relied far too heavily on recycling their older, much loved, classic design cues. When you add that to the need for a dynamically efficient shape, it all ends up looking a bit messy and disjointed.

IMHO.

Thank god looks are not everything (or so mother tells me) because the Macca's been licked in that department. Mind you, three pipes seems a bit greedy...

I do like the look of the 458 and it certainly has something about it, much much better looking than the 430 I think the difference is its a new car. Ferrari for the past few years have just been tweeking an exsiting model (bit like the 911 tongue out)

If I had the money I would seriously consider it.

There are nicer views of it, in profile for example, but at any angle it would look good in my garage...emmmm dont think it would fit in my garage com eto think of it...would have to sell my garage to insure it too.

IMHO, by recent pininfarina standards its not a bad, although I doubt it will ever trouble any of the pre 2000 Ferraris in the looks department, odd that the photo take is one of the worst angles of this car, odd lights and a rear bumper that wouldnt look out of place fixed to a barried Corsa
