I'm orangising a weekend away for my circle of friends during mid / late September.

Everyone is

  • Mid / late '30's
  • Reasonably affluent (we don't want 5* places, but don't want to slum it either!)
  • Married
  • Up for a couple of nights on the lash, with some good activities during the day time
Most of us live in London / South, but a couple of people will be travelling from Northshire, so I am thinking about somewhere north of London to try & even out the travelling for everyone.

Can anyone recommend anywhere kind of in the midlands that offers a belting night out, but with access to countryside for a spot of clay shooting / rage buggies / white water rafting etc, etc?

You probably won't get rafting and shooting in the Midlands, but go nearer the border (eek - Wales) and I'm sure you can go rafting on the Wye, shooting and stuff round that way too.

Nearest cities are Bristol or Cardiff that are actually worth going to, or Cheltenham/Ross for smaller places. The cities are further away from the action though.

It's a bit of a one or the other round the Midlands, there's big cities that don't really have outdoors stuff, and there's outdoors stuff that's nowhere near big cities....

That's pretty much it. Nottingham has got the nightlife. Also has Langor airfield. For go karting and sky diving if you fancy a bit of that. There's plenty of shoots around too, (not just gang related ones) But they are mainly on a Sunday. Plenty of hotels varying from ste to good.

Not sure you'll find much white water in the Wye to raft down, but there's certainly plenty of canoe hire along it. For anyone going there though, make sure you don't end up in a kayak that only turns left and doesn't have a spray deck if you don't fancy having to swim most of the way.

Nice area to spend the weekend though. Better than the canals of Birmingham that's for sure.

I've just stumbled upon this.
Camridgeshire- tandem skydive plus hovercraft piloting.
Not sure what March is like as a town- but its bound to have at least some pubs etc.

Ive just decided to do this myself with some mates.
Good suggestion op

I thought about Cambridge initially, as I don't think any of us have ever been there!!!

Nottingham is looking like a good bet as well. We went there for my stag 10 years ago & that was really the last time we all met up as a group.

Presumably you're in Bournemouth.... I'm from there and was about to post the same thing!

To the OP: West Bromwich - it's a wonderful place.

Don't worry, it won't be Bournemouth - I lived there for long enough to get sick
of the blue rinse brigade....
