Video: BMW M3 GTS On Track

New footage of the 'Club Sport' Bimmer in action at Ascari

BMW has released footage of its new M3 GTS making its track debut at the Ascari Race Resort.

The BMW M3 GTS is produced at the BMW M GmbH manufacturing facility in Germany. It gets a larger and more powerful V8 engine - 4.4 litres, making 444bhp - revised management for the 7-speed dual clutch transmission and modified suspension. The car has also been optimised with regard to aerodynamics and lightweight construction, and looks stunning in the only available colour, vivid orange.

Conceived as a 'club sport' version of the M3, the GTS is likely to be the current model's swansong, as there'll be a new M3 in 2012.

Only 150 will be built, and all have been pre-sold at a cost of £116,500. We're not sure how many are coming to the UK, but if you've got one ordered do let us know.

Meanwhile, stay tuned for our driving story on this fabulous new BMW soon...

Still got to be a GT3 RS for that kind of money, but the Bimmer looks and sounds great.

Its a pity they couldn't have produced something for about 70-80k and sold it in larger numbers, but I heard/read that the CSL didn't make money for BMW so they won't do that again, I guess this is a CSL but for people with deeper pockets....

I like it very much..

yeah i agree its just that bit too much , i have a csl and bought it 3 years old so about half price but given the limited numbers of this baby maybe its gonna hold the value too much, top marks for bmw for still making this type of car but shame for not making it accessable to urchins like me

Do BMW themselves make money on servicing (other than for the parts)? I would have thought it was the dealers (who are not owned by BMW) that make the money on servicing.

Love it, looks way better ont he move thatn it does in the photos, ans the V8 sounds even better.
Would be impressed if it can leave a mark on the GT3 RS, but with the extra weight i doubt it will. but then again the M3 is always very impressive on a track.

It might sound fabulous, drive brilliantly & go like st off a shiny shovel but I'd def want something visually a bit more exotic than a "tarted up 3 series body" to part with £116 grands worth of hard earned moolah.

Driving & aural thrills 9/10
Value for money 1.5/10

Walk away.

I dunno, the CSL got mightily close to the GT3 of the time's 'Ring time, so I wouldn't be shocked if this was in the ballpark.

I would definitely take this over some lightweight pork however. It's all about the power, the handling, the imagine. Oh wait no that's something else.

Anyway....*dribble* Anyone got tomorrow night's lottery numbers?

how can you possibly know that? besides, isn't it similarly priced (slightly cheaper??) than a GT3 RS? if so, if it's similarly paced around a track, then it's similar value for money than a GT3 RS, yes? after all, that's what these cars are designed for...being very quick and being a good experience.

would be interesting to see. the standard 911 which is more £££ than a standard M3 is about the same around a track, so by that logic, it should be close. time will tell, however

Just out of interest that's about what a 911RS from 1973 is worth today. Cost new was about £7k.

Also that is what an immaculate BMW 3.0 CSL from 1973 is worth today. Cost new was about £7k.

Ballpark numbers

Agreed its an awful lot of money as is the GT3RS but porkers do command a premium over BMW's and this does seem a bit steep. They should have been priced against the GT3 at say 80k, and made a 1000 of them then I could have picked one up for 50k in 2 years time!

But they have sold them all so its a moot point.

With only 150 made I think it will retain its value.

Loved my e92 M3 and if money was no object I'd have one of these in a breath for the collection that I don't have and can't afford... hehe

Nice car but @ £116,500 for a M3, it's just to mush money and there's allot of better metal out there which do not look like over the top rep machines.

The bit that struck me was "there'll be a new M3 in 2012". Hardly likely is it. They need to design a new 3 first and we're halfway through 2010. M3 will follow 18mths/2yrs later. Not that I care because I will still own one of the last V8s bmw ever made... and on that bombshell... multiple cloud9 's to the sound of that GTS!!!!!!!!!

Interesting car, but I really don't see the point. I can't imagine how a car based on a steel framed saloon car can hope to compete with a purpose built sports car at that kind of price point. It's a £116k 3-series!

I'm happy to be proved wrong, mind. smile
