Good Heavens.

Is there a bloke who doesn't view porn? You know - a real bloke as opposed to some feminist's ideal metrosexual image?

Microsoft Security Essentials - free and effective AV. Make sure the router is doing it's Firewall job and don't disable Windows Firewall. Install the latest Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari. Tell your old man to use IE for browsing and one of the others for viewing the barenaked ladies with Private Browsing turned on.

another linux user here...opensuse though smile

agree....used it for 6 years now...no matter how much porn, it never goes wrong hehe
Can I add that my post was purely about the theoretical greater resiliance of *nix systems to on-line viruses. I'd never ... ahem ... actually go to such a site. wink

There are some "safe" porn sites out there.

Google 'FreudBox' and 'TheHun'

Both offer snippets which should be enough to give any bloke over 60 a heart attack satisfy any mans cravings..
I highly recommend "xhamster" "ampland" "tiava" for video's, pictures whatever....

Fixed.

Suggesting parents / newbies to use IE is like giving a toddler a shotgun.

In the interest of informing the OP, I have attempted to break my Ubuntu lappy by looking for weapons grade scuff material. I am pleased to report that I have failed as it still works.

Have I checked out web porn? Hell, yea. For years lol! But knowing my dad has done similar (if just the once) is weird.
Does that not seem a bit hypocritical to you?

If you have kids, will you immediately stop looking at web porn?

Go Dad!

He's your bloody father you should be recommending sites to him.
I can imagine the conversation right now:

"Here Pa - you should check this site out, they do this thing where....and then she...and he then..and it's bloody brilliant"

"Ah son, I remember when your mother...."

Yeah, discussing your favourite porn sites with your father has real potential... hurl

Also, create a ghost image of the OS after you format, saves a LOT of time.
Seconded. A complete XP install, patched up, with apps installed etc. can easily take an evening. A ghost restore about 15 mins and most of that is unattended.

Firefox
Tools > Private Browsing

I think they came up with it before Chrome and Internet Explorer too!
I think you'll find that Safari were market leader with Private Browsing or "PB" as mates and I like to call it! Alledgedly....

It made me laugh when the new release of Firefox came out announcing they had the functionality. Before PB someone I know used to always use the Guest Account on his Mac and log out afterwards.....wipes all history. Very useful......

If I were in your situation, I think I would be more annoyed at my Mum for telling me.

I haven't quite figured out my logic yet, but I might return later.

Install Chrome and educate your dad in the merits of "Incognito Browsing".

Apparently.
Its easy enough to clear browsing history on Firefox too so I've heard
Firefox with a history length of zero, it's the cookies and the google bar autocomplete etc that gets you noticed.
becomes
www.megaporn
etc.
