Pic Of The Week: Top 5 Driver's Cars 'Ever'

So do you agree with the C&S verdict?

The sun was shining the other day, so the eds team here at PH we thought we'd get our personal cars out of the garage, take them up to Millbrook and blow away a few cobwebs...

Oh, all right then. Actually it was a Classic and Sportscar magazine day out organised for their new 'Best Ever Driver's Car' feature, and we weren't invited. In fact the rotters didn't even tell us about it, even though they only sit a twanged rubber band's flight away from us here at PH Towers.

Still, you'll be interested to hear the magazine's final choice of best driver's car ever was (wait for it...) the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, which pipped the Macca F1 to the title.

Also in the running were these other cars pictured in this glorious shot of the top five contenders - an Alfa 8C (swoon...), Lotus Elan Sprint and Mini Cooper S.

Something for everyone then, except us. Pass the pea-shooter!

Hmmm nice group, i think for moving the driving experience on the most in a single step though it has to be the mini.

Nice to see the Elan at the front. But then I would be bias.

Reckon I'll have to buy the mag as I'm interested to see that 8c in a list of best drivers cars...maybe I'm an inverse luddite (Is there such a thing?) but I just can't see it offering the same experience as a "driver's car" as the others.

Still - nice pic!

Got my copy through the post on Monday morning (handy for a week away from home in a hotel). It makes an interesting read. That McLaren F1...... cloud9

Nice selection of cars.

Except that Chitty Chitty Bang Bang thing near the back.

I mean, honestly, what were they thinking?

Nice bunch of cars. Good choices. smile

As above though, not sure about Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. But then that just highlights my lack of all-round knowledge where cars are concerned.

I wonder when we will get the inevitable PH reply.....where's the MX5 or Cerb?

Great cars all! I spent a week touring Holand with a frend in his SSE spec Elan, fabulous driftable eager car (hopeless for two to sleep in when youv'e spent all your funds chasing girls in nightclubs though! The RS was always my favourite 911 after a Autofarm mechanic took me in one for a "test" drive, at the time I had a 911E with half the power! Light weight and focussed in a way later cars have forgotten about. RS for me please!

Any chance of PH securing a copy or an overview of the article for those of us who are too pikey / lazy to go and buy C&S?

Certainly not what I'd pick for my top 5. Imo, of those 5, only the McLaren F1 deserves to be there.

I agree that the Lotus elan and particularly the 'sprint' was one of my very favourite possessions until the 1st baby arrived.
I exchanged it for a 3 litre ford capri and absolutely hated it after the superb performance of the sprint. It seemed like it could only go in a straight line compared to the sprint.

Would that be a certain Mr. Atkinson's Mclaren F1?

Beautiful. First time I've ever downloaded a picture from PH and actually made it my desktop! Lotus is best, although I've only ever driven the Mini!
