I am after one of those bathroom mirrors that can be turned on by waving your hand about, this one actually:

http://www.modernhomesbathrooms.co.uk/mirrors-cabi...

But, there is note saying: 'All mirrors featuring infrared technology must be mounted a minimum of 150mm from an adjacent wall or obstruction to ensure correct function of the infrared sensor.'

I know they usually say this for a reason, but does anyone know if you can get away with less? Im looking at 100mm away from the shower glass. Thats the best I can do.

Or, if anyone has something like this, are there sensors on both sides? Could I get away with covering the sensor that is close to the glass and just use the one on the other side?

Any help and advice much apprecciated.

I've got one in my bathroom (not as snazzy as the one in your link, flash git wink ). I mounted it flush against the wall, less than 100mm from the shower enclosure/quadrant to the left, and above the sink. Never had a problem with the IR sensor, can't really see why you would need a minimum gap (unless you block the sensor but you would have to be a bit of a tard to do that). Maybe if its too close to a sink the hot water/steam will effect the sensor? One thing I have found is that the distance you need to wave your hand is closer to the sensor than the "max range" it quoted. I don't think this has anything to do with the fitting, probably just the manufacturer being optimistic and my mirror costing about a third the price of your one! smile

edited to add mine has one sensor at the bottom, I didn't know you could get them with multiple sensors (which your post implies).

Hi,
I have bought one of these from Costco (not identical, but same make, size, LED's with IR sensor, no shaver or clock though) for £100. Well worth a look to save you some $$.
Mine is mounted on the wall, about 300mm from the shower enclosure.
Will post a pic if you're interested.

Cheers

Tom
