Next week Netto have Gardentec chainsaws at a little over £50
Has anyone ever tried one and are they any good?
52cc, 450mm bar 2 stroke,
looking at it for log chopping and occasional other work
Cheers

I bought one from Aldi 18 months ago for £49.95, saved me an absolute fortune, best piece of equipment i have ever purchased, paid for itself over and over again. When the chain needs sharpening, i just buy a new chain £7.95, less than sharpening price.

That's not a bad price, should save me a bit over hiring one to sort out a couple of trees in the garden smile

Or buy yourself a chainsaw file for a quid, and it will always be sharp.

Doubt you'll get one of those for £50. My McCulloch or (forget the brand) could be had for that or a little less depending on which one you want wink

stihl.

buy once etc, regret the cost for a month then spend the next 20 years happy with your quality purchase.

My dad has a Stihl chainsaw. He got the smallest one then ended up cutting down lots of trees so went one up when it was stolen. So it is worth considering blade length.

Also might be worth looking at Echo - we have a bushcutter and it has been excellent and was recommended by the local greenkeepers. I think they are also a bit cheaper.

I have a large Stihl saw, and am about to get a smaller one too for snedding/groundwork too. Buy once, keep for 20 years.

Unless you own a forest a cheap chainsaw is fine

I bought a £50 B&Q own brand (oregon blade) electric chainsaw 10 years ago. I've taken down about 15 trees and 4 or 5 large bushes.

They don't get used that often, so you really don't need an expensive one. Personally I'd go for electric if you don't need one that often.

OK I own a forest, OK a forest is maybe a bit of an exaggeration but it’s nearly an acre's worth on my 3 acre building plot. What should I be looking for to thin out the woods, some of the trees are large and what should I expect to pay. Any help would be welcome as I have no idea?

Sorry for the thread hijack

Realistically: a tree surgeon. If you want the trees to be healthy and attractive once you're done that is.

You're probably looking a couple of hundred quid a day.

Cheers,

FT.

I'd be amazed if something that small, cheap and low powered could handle an 18" bar.
