Melkus To Show Hardcore Coupes In Monaco

German sports car maker to unveil two new offerings at Top Marques show

It might sound more like cough remedy than a German sports car maker, but Melkus is definitely into cars rather than pharmaceuticals and to prove the point it is bringing two new versions of its RS2000 coupe (first seen at the Frankfurt show in 2009) to the Top Marques show in Monaco this weekend.

The RS2000 GT and GTS both get a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine from a 'well-known German manufacturer' (if that doesn't mean Audi we'd be surprised) giving 296bhp in GT form and 345bhp in GTS form.

That's enough to propel the faster of the two to a top speed of 186mph and a 0-62mph sprint off 3.9secs (the GT does the same in 4.5secs.

Both the GT and GTS come with adjustable dampers and AP performance brakes. Meanwhile, Melkus makes substantial use of carbon-fibre for the front spoiler, rear wing, rear diffuser and side air intakes in order to help keep the kerb weight down to just 975kg.

Love the side profile, but that rear end looks like its raised in the air ready to trump.

Actually the back is similar to the old Aston v8 Vantage which I never liked either.

I certainly wouldn't chew my arm off if I woke up next to it though.

Any ideas on prices?

Looks like a kick in the teeth for the Evora if £50-60k is possible.

If its priced anything like Wisemanns and those other two german superlight sportscars PH reported on, it will be mega pricey.

If its competitively priced, its a massive kick in the teeth to Noble, Lotus et al - another example of the Germans looking to beat us at our own game!

Looks very nice, hopefully it doesn`t sound like a hairdryer like the 2.0t audi lump usually does.

But why cant they think of an original name for themselves rather than using RS2000 or RS200 of which it is not.

Fingers crossed they can make this happen and at a sensible price thumbup 186mph of 345hp sounds a bit ambitious though.

Noble M12 side profile, Lotus Exige rear-end, not keen on the front... looks out of proportion.

Pretty little car.

I am reminded however, that similar claims were being made by Artega for their offering too. Also a pretty car of very similar aspiration.

I have never seen one, nor know of anyone who has seen one. And its been around a few years now..

I can't imagine Lotus worrying about another flim-flam German pretender turning up now.

I wish it well, but It will probably sink without a trace. Give it a few years and it will be utterly , sadly, forgotten.

The Artega is very nice though..

You're right, it's no Clio.

I like the front, but the back looks like an Elise that's been rear ended. Why does every new "enthusiast" car have to look like a Lotus?

Impressive specs though, if they can achieve them.

Looks more like a Noble.

Fibreglass body? Check.

Mid engine layout? Check.

Standard native engine turbocharged to death? Check.

Its a German Noble. I wouldn't be surprised if Melkus means Noble in German...

Melkus RS2000?

A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet,
"unless you called them crap weeds".

It's bad enough the manufacturer sounds suspiciously like a pubic wig.

rofl

Except Renault never called any of their cars an RS200, just a few deluded owners.

Looks very much like an Elise with roof (not quite an Exige) but with bigger trousers.
I like.
