I only ask because I recently got a fake Tag Heuer Monaco, Steve McQueen jobbie, wifey wouldnt let me spend the money on a real one.

I just cant believe how perfect it is, every little tiny detail, all the markings, even on the back and the clasp, perfect scale, everything. I have to say I wasnt expecting much, but this is so good its as good as real. I had a good look on the web and came across some really crap ones, so I am well chuffed with this. I even went into town and actually compared it with a real one too, couldnt tell the difference.

But is it legal?

Btw, it tells the correct time twice every day too

No !

Fakes are not legal although you will only have a problem if you:
1. Ware it when passing through custom control at an Airport.
2. Try to sell it as the real thing.
3. Take it to a watch dealer for repair.

You can get just about any make you want in the streets of Bangkok.

Not that I have been there or bought any watches.

If the fakes are so good how do you tell them apart from the real thing?

Who makes them so good, are these really expensive fakes made from real gold etc?

If bought in the country of manufacture fakes range in price from about £5 to £50+ .
I think most are made in Asia. The ones coasting £50 or more are nice watches and look very like the real ones. They are probably worth what you pay for them but the quality of materials and finish are no where near as good as a genuine branded watch. I'm not sure the genuine watches are worth £1,500 to £5,000 being charged.
I would rather have a good £50 watch than a £50 fake

I'm in the same boat at the moment. Not allowed to spend mucho cash on a Monaco. Where did you get yours from?

www.primereplica.com

The only downside is that it is on the steel bracelet (again, very good accurate copy) rather than the blue crocodile strap. I am now on the look out for a blue leather strap in 23mm.

Try Ellesse dealers for a blue sharkskin strap, it may be a good match..

An interesting point about these fake watches which ARE made in the Far East .......... is that most of them have Seiko movements inside.
Seiko make, I believe, three grades of internal parts - sorta Class A, B and C and the fakes have C grade. However, even C grade is excellent quality coming from Seiko.
I used to live in Hong Kong and travel the whole area regularly and must have had a good 50/60 fake watches for my wife and myself ......... SHE still has about 10 of them which still work after 15 years use!! (I have a genuine TAG HEUER lol !!)

Why not buy the genuine thing on the used market? Loads of them available in retail outlets, just make sure you have all the paperwork with the watch and also it is in original box, get it for half new price and it will always be worth at least that when you want a change.

Anyone who buys a fake anything is a thief IMHO.

I speak as someone who has run a business that has lost millions through counterfeiting.

Sorry to hear that, I ordered mine on a Monday, and it arrived on the Friday, paid via Paypal. As for counterfeiting losing the 'original' millions, yes if its a CD, but do you honestly think that when someone buys a fake Rolex for £99 thats another lost sale on a real one at £9,999.

I believe that the superfluous as is in fact an as that’s slipped through a rift in the space/time continuum.

It is in fact an as from a very witty post that I will put up next week, all about puppies.
However as we now know the as will be missing the post. It will make no sense at all.
Now I have the benefit of foresight I will not make that particular post.
