Radical has confirmed the spec of its new SR10 track monster, a turbocharged model which produces 431hp and uses a Formula 2-grade transaxle, no less. Aimed at track day enthusiasts and top-level endurance racers alike, the 2.3 EcoBoost-powered machine is claimed to offer Le Mans Prototype performance in a much lower cost and more reliable package. The British manufacturer goes so far as to claim that it’s “easy to drive”.
PH knows from first-hand experience that while anyone can theoretically squeeze into a Radical and get going, the cars demand respect and masses of commitment at pace. And the SR10 looks set to elevate that thanks to the higher output provided by its turbocharged engine, which has both more power and, with 380lb ft, more torque than the SR8’s V8 motor. The SR10’s ramped-up Ford unit is said to offer easier operation and longer service intervals.
Push-button running is accompanied by thoroughbred muscle. The SR10 gets a bespoke Garrett G-Series turbocharger, intake and engine management software to achieve its gains. The motor is said to have razor sharp throttle response (it’s already renowned as having quick reactions in standard tune), with minimal lag. It’s aided by the use of forged pistons and connecting rods, with a bespoke dry-sump system to ensure everything (in the engine bay) remains lubricated.
The engine is mated to a Hewland GT3-derived six-speed sequential gearbox, packaged into a TMT transaxle, which was originally developed for the FIA Formula 2 single-seater. The motor includes an integral paddle shift actuator and WaveTrac ATB differential, said to be more than capable of juggling the power delivered by race-spec powerplant that sits ahead of it. With a set of slick tyres and a handy pedaler behind then wheel, we’d fully expect the SR10 to embarrass all sorts of racing exotica out on circuit.
On that note, the driver will be faced with Radical’s new wheel-mounted LCD multi-page display, which made its debut on the SR3 XX. The SR10 gets multiple engine and gearbox mapping options, as well as adjustable weighting for the optional electronic power steering system, which is a first for an SR model. So you’re not short of tech to go with the new mechanical clout. It comes with an FIA-specification safety cell and crash structure, as you’d expect from Radical.
“The SR10 expands on the class-leading architecture of the SR model line and gives SR3 and SR8 owners alike a great next level of Radical performance - wherever they use the car,” says Radical. Want one? Orders are being taken now, with first deliveries scheduled to begin next month. Which leaves just about enough time for early buyers to get themselves psyched up for the drive.
