This isn't a late April fool's day hoax or a practical joke - it could actually be a way of keeping your diesel van running! After all, AdBlue, or diesel exhaust fluid, is pretty much a mixture of urea and deionised water, used to lower the NOx concentration in the diesel exhaust emissions.
With the ULEZ proposed by the Mayor of London due to be implemented in 2020, the addition of AdBlue may help in lowering NOx emissions in EU6 compliant diesel engines. But what happens if you run out of the fluid? Some PHers have been discussing using urine as a substitute - urea and water factor in both fluids. However, Cummins states the concentration and purity of the fluid is key to keeping vans and trucks running right. Just in case you were thinking there was an easy answer to getting caught short in both regards. Worth remembering if you were thinking of bulk buying your AdBlue that it does have a shelf life too - these and other challenges of the tech now up for (timely) discussion on PH.
