At Warwick Castle's gates
After two-years of planning and research and thousands in legal costs, the bank holiday weekend in August saw the first event of its type on British -- the 'Britballrun'.
The event was a 1,200 mile three-day road trip around Great Britain and was fully approved by relevant bodies, and 35 police constabularies were aware of the exact route, times and locations of control points.
The line-up consisted of 25 vehicles which ranged from Porsche to an ex-post office van.
On day one, the vehicles left the West Midlands only knowing where the next control point was. They headed through Wales and eventually north to Scotland. In typical Scottish weather, day two headed back south down the M1/A1 for a private five-course banquet inside Warwick Castle (see picture). The third day saw the vehicles driving further south, then across the Severn Bridge into Wales and back to the West Midlands.
The event was a huge success. Thousands was raised for Children in Need. The highest compliment remains that all entrants have stated that they will be back for Britballrun 2006, where the line-up will be limited to 40 vehicles (100 people).
