When we saw the new SL we couldn’t exactly say it was a looker.
But now the new SL63 AMG has been unveiled and we can confirm that – it isn’t much of a looker.
Hopefully the car will appear better in the flesh but from these pics it seems that Merc has done nothing more than attack the front end with a set square.
However if the looks of the new AMG SL are set to divide opinion, most people will agree on one thing – it will go like stink.
Mercedes has apparently ditched the supercharged SL55 and instead we have the 6.2 litre V8, 538bhp, 465 lb-ft, SL63 AMG.
It has new side gills and revised rear as well, as well as AMG-specific bonnet and Porsche 911 Turbo-esque wheels.
Inside there is leather and carbon fibre surrounding more technology than a Currys superstore.
The SL63 gets Merc’s seven-speed twin-clutch SpeedShift Multi-Cluth Transmission, giving smoother shifts.
You can also get ceramic brakes as an option as part of a performance package.
If you are the sort of man who would laugh at the SL63’s pathetic performance there is also the SL65 AMG, with a turbocharged V12 has 604bhp.
