Going skiing this winter? Snow chains have become a legal requirement in France and Switzerland and, without them, you may be turned away or fined. Most other European countries operate similar laws for motorists travelling to their ski resorts.
And if the Met Office's forecasts prove correct, you’re likely to need them in the UK this winter.
Car Parts Direct rides to the rescue with -- you guessed it - a set of snow chains. It has, said the company, a range of snow chains "that can be fitted in just a few minutes. The chains are claimed to be very easy to fit with instructions that are covered in four simple steps."
The kit's snow grip is provided by a heavy-duty 6mm coated steel chain that's fully TUV approved -- important for insurance purposes -- and comes packed in a plastic carrying case.
Carparts Direct said it would refund 50 per cent of the cost of the kit against a replacement set should you decide to change your vehicle within a year. The refund on the snow chains can be claimed providing the original set remains unused.
Mark Cornwall of carparts-direct.co.uk said, “The 50 per cent refund is great for our customers. They win if they need to use them because they are so easy to fit. And they win if they don’t need them and decide to change their car. With a severe winter expected motorists are ordering them just in case they get stuck going to work – with the 50 per cent refund and exchange deal it isn’t worth the risk of not carrying a set of snow chains in the boot”
The ‘Three-minute snow chain Kit’ costs £59 for tyre sizes up-to 14 inch and £79 for larger sizes. Prices include VAT and free UK delivery.
