This IMSA Sportscar Championship is really hotting up. News that Mercedes-AMG is fielding its
AMG GT3
race cars to do battle alongside the likes of Ford, McLaren, Lamborghini, Bentley and now the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R. Replacing the winning Z/28.R, this Camaro will battle it out in the GTS class of the Pirelli World Challenge and the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, as well as the GT4 series.
Developed alongside Pratt and Miller Engineering, this race-ready GT4.R is built off the ZL1 road car with a naturally aspirated, dry sumped 6.2-litre V8 fitted to a Xtrac six-speed sequential gearbox. Unlike the Z/28.R a more aggressive aero package has been fitted to the GT4.R with a larger rear wing, deeper dive planes and a more intimidating front-end. The race winning formula from the previous Z/28.R has hopefully been passed on to this racer.
Chevrolet has teased an eight-second drive-by clip of the GT4.R wearing basic camouflage and flying down the straight at a wet racetrack. If it drives as well as it sounds, Chevrolet is surely onto another winner. More details as and when we get them
