Next year marks three decades since the R32 generation of Nissan Skyline GT-R was unleashed onto the world. 'Unleashed' seems like the right word too, given how Godzilla tore apart touring car grids and the sports car status quo. Sure, there had been GT-Rs before 1989, but the R32 is where the modern interpretation of the badge began.
Right now they're in huge demand. Kids who grew up playing Gran Turismo, who then became teenagers watching Best Motoring on YouTube, are now adults wishing to fulfil their childhood fantasies of Skyline ownership. Combine that with a voracious appetite from the United States - where the same factors apply, but the car couldn't be imported until it was 25 years old - and R32s are now hot property in classic car circles.
PHer 'Mudgey' has managed to secure a GT-R, though, and what a gem it looks. Bar a non-standard exhaust, his white Skyline is original right down to the airbox, and looks all the better for it.
Moreover, while there are plans to tinker just a bit, nothing drastic is on the horizon for the Skyline: a paint touch up here, some suspension work there, maybe just a little more power too. This will not be a wild Skyline project by the sounds of it.
We think it looks fabulous already, even with the ride height as it is and the viscous fan requiring a fix, which is why Mudgey's R32 GT-R is our Reader's Car of the Week. Enjoy your Skyline!
