Silverstone Classic is upon us. And PH will be at the iconic home of British motor racing from July 26-28th to take it all in. It'll be our first year attending with the Pie & Piston, our famed pub, as well as a member (thanks guys) and 'icon' display. Those are three reasons to attend right out of the gate - here are ten more...
1) Endurance racing
The Silverstone Classic is the biggest classic racing festival in the world, with more than 1,000 race entries. Naturally then, there's a huge array of things to watch but it's no secret that we're huge fans of endurance racing. Saturday evening will see the Aston Martin Trophy for Masters Endurance Legends kick off at 20:10. We can't wait.
2) Mini racing
We've already paid Swiftune a visit to see how they've been preparing for this years 60th anniversary celebration of the Mini. With two record breaking races this weekend, every Mini fan will be in their element. Don't miss the huge infield display of pre-2001 classic Minis either.
3) Capri celebrations
This year marks the golden anniversary of the Ford Capri, which we celebrated by driving the last one ever made. An arguably more fitting celebration will occur this weekend with Capris taking part in the Historic Touring Car Challenge, with competitors chasing the Gordon Spice Trophy that'll be awarded by the man himself.
4) Paddocks and grandstands
Perhaps the main highlight of the Classic; the paddocks are open and free for spectators to wander round, meaning you can get up close to the race cars and chat to the drivers and teams. There are also free to access grandstands which include Club Corner, the International Pits Straight, Paddock Club, Village B, Luffield, Woodcote A, Copse A, Becketts and Silverstone Six. All but the last are covered.
5) Pie & Piston
When you need a break from the track, come and join us at the PistonHeads pub, the Pie & Piston. We're taking over the Paddock Café behind the National Paddock, where you'll be able to grab a full English breakfast, hot food all day and a cold beverage including a selection of draught and bottled beers served by BrewDog. This is where you'll find our icon display and member parking outside so come and say hello!
6) Motorsport UK
If you've always dreamed of competing or being more involved in motorsport yourself, then head over to see Motorsport UK to chat about how you can get started. Whether you want to see more as a fan, marshal or want to understand the costs of starting to compete in entry-level motorsport, then the Motorsport UK team are the perfect bunch to chat to. You'll find them in zone 10 in the shopping village.
7) Run the circuit and support Alzheimer's Research UK
If you're coming on Friday, pack your running gear and take part in the 5.14km fun run around the track to support Alzheimer's Research UK. Visit their stand on the Village Green before 5:30pm to sign-up and pay a suggested donation of £5 for a wristband to take part at 18:30.
8) Car clubs
There are more than 130 car clubs attending with some 10,000 cars on display. Obviously the PistonHeads icon display and club area should be your first port of call in zone 4, but you'll certainly need all three days to get around the rest. You can find the list of registered clubs here.
9) Village green
There's a huge amount of free entertainment at the village green, including a big wheel, traditional fun fair rides, giant garden games, crazy golf and a display from the British Motor Museum. Everything is included in your ticket price.
10) Music
Make sure you pace yourself throughout the day to conserve energy as Silverstone Classic are celebrating Woodstock this year; marking the 50th anniversary of the world's most famous rock festival. After the skies have been lit up by hot air balloons on Friday and Saturday evening, you can enjoy the music of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Joe Cocker, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Sly and the Family Stone, Ten Years After and The Who.
The full timetable for the weekend can be found here. You can tune in to all the action on Silverstone Classic radio on 87.7FM.
