With a passion for engineering, mechanics and racing I took the plunge of investing my student loan into something I had wanted to do since the age of about 14 - build my own kit car. A Haynes locost at 15 was a possibility but a good mk2 Escort doner never came about so the plans were put on hold.

In 2008 i checked out a few manufacturers and eventually settled with MNR in Yorkshire for one of their Lotus 7 inspired cars. The car was bought as a bare chassis with a Yamaha R1 engine from Malcom Engines leaving me with everything to do. The build was a mixed bag of highs and lows but looking back now all I can do is smile, grab the keys and go for a blat.

I've kept things simple with the car mainly for cost and the intention to test it and improve when/if needed. Its therefore almost no compromise with no screen, heating, reverse etc just the R1 lump, RWD and some wheels with some healthy sized stoppers.

Now all that its waiting for is some track time to put the screaming orange monster through its paces.
