The Lotus stand at Geneva was a busy place.
As well as unveiling the new Elise
hybrid Evora concept
, Lotus also revealed a carbon fibre Evora concept (right), and announced a strategic alliance with engine tuner Cosworth - one that will no doubt revive happy memories of the many Cosworth DFV-engined Lotus F1 victories of the 60s and 70s.
The link-up with Cosworth will help Lotus to develop more bespoke high-performance engines for its road and race cars, starting with the Toyota-sourced V6 in the new Lotus Evora Cup car.
In fact, the Evora Cup was on show at Geneva, complete with a new Cosworth badge and new aerodynamic tweaks. The car is now in its final form, and will head to the track for shakedown testing as soon as its stint at the show is over. The first customer delivery for the GT4-spec car will be in May.
"It's a tight schedule and we still have a lot of work to do," Lotus's motorsport boss Claudio Berro told PH "but the car is simple, so it should be reliable - the engine is effectively bought-in, as is the Cima gearbox. Even the suspension is based-on the roadgoing Evora's."
The Evora Carbon Concept sharing space with the Evora Cup racer is a bit more glitzy - it gets a carbon fibre, leather and Alcantara interior, aggressive carbon diffuser, and an exposed carbon fibre roof. The rest of the concept car is finished in an advanced water-based white pearlescent paint.
