Noise meter. As all engines are different, we decided last time to let people do their worst (by revving) to get the highest reading they could, and it worked very well. I'll do that again this time.

But if anyone did want the standard 45 degree, half a metre test that a lot of circuits do, they just need to ask and I'll do that too.

UPDATE

There's been some problems behind the scenes which are now all sorted, so the meet is still definitely going ahead.

Parking charges
Car parking in the gorge is £4. There's no parking meters, but there will usually be attendants milling about the gorge. The money is used for the upkeep of the gorge for everyone to enjoy.

Donations to the charity - Weston Hospice Care
Longleat estate have advised us that their charity policy excludes fundraising on their land as they support their own chosen charities, so we won't be taking donations for the hospice on the day.

About the parking: it's £4 for every member of the public who parks there, including us, and we'll be taking over a very large area of their parking. There are usually attendants every day selling tickets.

I don't have a problem with them charging - it's no different than getting a ticket at a shopping centre. The gorge is privately owned, and I can imagine how much it costs to keep the gorge safe from falling rocks in these H&S obsessed times, and thus open for everyone to enjoy.

I'm not an expert in these matters, so happy to go with the consensus from everyone else.

There's been some problems behind the scenes which are now all sorted, so the meet is still definitely going ahead.

Parking charges
Car parking in the gorge is £4. There's no parking meters, but there will usually be attendants milling about the gorge. The money is used for the upkeep of the gorge for everyone to enjoy.

Donations to the charity - Weston Hospice Care
Longleat estate have advised us that their charity policy excludes fundraising on their land as they support their own chosen charities, so we won't be taking donations for the hospice on the day.

At the risk of upsetting a lot of people, ime getting pretty fed up of charities, Yes i know good cause, how else are they suppose to survive etc etc. But every time in town, put the radio on, put the tv on its a charity.
The gorge meet come along way since Corrin Ben and I thought it would be a good idea, over a beer, to have a meet with the Bristol boys.

I'm upset!

In this instance its quite obvious that the donation is made online and therefore you wont have to endure someone shaking a tin in your face

Further, this is a local charity that helps cancer patients with end of life care, not some charity for the usual far flung corners of the world.

I think just about all of us have been touched in some way by cancer and I for one would like to think they would be there for me/my loved ones should the need arise

Donating is NOT mandatory if you are attending, but it would be nice if each person could donate at least £2 (or whatever they feel they can afford) to such a worthy, local cause

I know what you mean, sax player. It's a bit of a pain in the arse to collect donations too, especially if you're there to see the cars as well.

Like Matt says, the JustGiving page allows anyone to donate if they want to, to raise a few quid for a local charity, and you don't have to at all. I'll still do the sound tests whether someone has donated or not, as who doesn't like to hear those engines?

To me, PH meets are primarily about the cars and always will be. Charity shouldn't be the main reason we meet up for a chat, but sometimes it's nice to show performance car owners can get together and do some good in the region whilst standing in a car park talking brake upgrades.
