Is that discount just less deposit at risk or off the actual price of the car ?

I think I'd like to see a whole lot more information.

Part of the attraction of the TVR is its a British car, made by British people.
Yes sure, its lovely, goes like stink and sounds fantastic but it was uniquely British.

What is being sold here?

We've seen 1 single render image of a car so far. You have bigger nads than it takes to drive a TVR if you have £5k to throw at this venture based on what we know so far.

just my £0.02p worth

I would guess that there will be some serious detail to support in 6 days times.

Make the deposit.
Sell it on later at a profit?

So why not issue the details and the option for a deposit at the same time?

Rather than creating "hype" they'll just create "it'll be st" type comments.

I'd love for TVR to do well, but seriously on what planet would you leave a £5k deposit with someone who has no track record of producing cars, has no plans in the public domain (let alone sketches), no demo vehicles or even a working production facility?

This guy was very well documented as having money to burn and had massive plans to bring TVR back
"I am very enthusiastic about the potential of TVR and am grateful for the opportunity to become a car manufacturer"

If he had asked you to drop £5k deposit on his latest idea would you have done?
http://www.theguardian.com/business/2004/jul/29/ru...

I suspect you'd now be £5k lighter if you had.

Perhaps there's reason we are cautious...

I doubt they'll just ask you to post a cheque or give them your bank details. (Overseas bank account in Abuja)

Whenever I've put a deposit down on a car there's been a contract to sign and the monies are usually put in an escrow account and are returnable right up to where you sign the final order.

I would place a deposit IF:

1) I could get a firm commitment to a price
2) I could get a firm commitment on the continued involvement of Gordon Murray
3) ...and Cosworth
4) I could see how it looks
5) ...and if it looks as good/wild as a Tuscan

I doubt I'd be able to get any of those assurances, but I think if they fulfilled 4 and 5 I might cave.

Genuinely excited about this. Probably to the point of recklessness.

Is it a risk? Definitely. However you don't get the big rewards without some skin in the game, and if nobody is brave enough to place an order it doesn't get built.

... but it HAS to look as good/wild as a Tuscan

Likewise.

Have you ever put down a deposit under these conditions before? Putting down a deposit at a motorshow is a bit different to this.

Well I am so confident that I am putting down deposits for 2 cars, one for me and one to sell on, as I believe they will be a waiting list and I can make some money. He who dares MILKY400
he who dares, plus its only a poxy £2500 deposit not like £30,000 for a Aston or lambo ect.
