A very good pub not too far from Hatfield is the Lytton Arms in Old Knebworth. A conservative 18mins away according to mapblast.com it's not far from J6 of the A1(M).

Okay, rather than make this complicated, why don't we just meet up next weekend at the Lytton Arms (thanks Guy), have a drink and a chat, then go for a hoon around.

The Lytton Arms is in my Good Pub Guide; entry says it is in "Park Lane, Old Knebworth, 3 miles from A1(M) junction 7. Take A602 towards Stevenage, 2nd roundabout right on B197 towards Knebworth, then right into Old Knebworth Lane; at village T junction, right towards Codicote." Several of the roads nearby have been posted on this site as good drives.

Given that it's a Bank Holiday, meeting up on Sunday may be better traffic wise, but I'm OK for any of the 4 day weekend.

OK- there's a suggestion, so please post if you can do it. Manu, if you can make it that would be fantastic. If you like, you can leave your car in the pub and come along with me.

Sunday next week sounds fine to me, although I can do any day on that long weekend. What sort of time were you thinking? Perhaps noon? I found the pub on multimap so I know where it is now! Which Ferrari are you bringing, the 360 or the 456? I think I'd prefer to see the 360, as I might see the 456 at the FOC meet.

Manu, it would be great if you can make it, would be nice to see you.

Domster if you can make it would be great, would love to see the Porsche!

Looking forward to it!

Right I'm going to contact Ross Koller on FerrariChat - he's got a TR and a 348 and see if he's able to make it!
Kevin - our Hamanns and Tubis are being ordered this Friday!

I'm trying to get hold of a decent machine. Anyone know a place that does Caterham rentals!!

Manu.

Well, that was a spectacular, and highly memorable afternoon! Was great to meet up with you. Ninja, Anjay & Manu - you're all top blokes.

Ninja, your 355 is sensational, and the sound is, as Manu put it, 'pure F1'. I would be delighted if I could get the 360 to sound half as good as that.

Here's to the next tunnel fest- you never know we may see that Daiblo again and take him up on a Gumball

Cheers guys

Kevin, Ninja,

I'd like to thank you both for showing me and Ajay the greatest time we've ever, ever had - EVER.

That wasn't just spectacular that was simply sensational - NO sensational doesn't do it justice .... that was beyond words. A combination of fantastic machinery, VERY skilled driving, and great great roads......and absolute quality guys.

Kevin - mate you've got a biggest heart ever - Thank you, I'll never forget this - you truly deserve all your "Jamminess."
For those of you that don't know Kevin - all you need to know he's the most generous bona fide, die-hard Ferrari nut ever.

Ninja - you are without doubt the coolest Ferrari F355 Spyder owner IN THE WORLD. I can't believe you took delivery of your Spyder only 2 weeks ago. Your perfect heeling-n-toeing left me ooohhing and aaahing like a big kid! Following your howling 355 back to London was pure joy.

Guys you've both motivated me to work my ASS off to get me back into a Ferrari (and have YOU ride shotgun!).

Three enduring memories:

1. In Kevins 360, with Ninjas Spyder ALONGSIDE in Hatfield tunnel, utterly tearing up the tarmac with both cars over 8000rpm, with the tunnel sounding, for all the world, like Armageddon had broken out.

2. 4-up in Kevins superb sounding 456GT turning into the 'chicane' at an UNBELIEVABLE speed and being left simply stupified. Awesome.

3. In Ninjas spyder, roof down, following the 360 past the damn Sainsbury lorry with the V8 SCREAMING away only 6 inches behind my NUT as we rifled down the dip in the road.....

When I get that 575MM, that Diablo driver is going to get the shock of his life.

Manu,
Thanks for that- very kind of you to say so. It was good fun wasn't it!
You are a better cameraman than you give yourself credit for. I've just watched the video and though a bit shaky in places (wonder why?!) it turned out OK. Email me with an address & I'll send you a copy. I'll send another one to Ninja's work address.

Did the 456 sound OK in the tunnel? Sounded quite good to me but you were in a better position to judge. We'll DEFINITELY do that again.

Cheers

Kevin

BTW- we could have caught that Diablo no problem; driver bottled out (no mph, no packdrill!)

Wow, I have only just recovered! (Drove the 355 until evening, did 280 miles in it yesterday)

Its was a true delight to have met you guys, and as Manu says Kevin is truly a great gentleman.

Manu you are too kind mate, I am still in awe of Kevin's driving, not just in the 360 (remember when we came around the corner to find Kevin had already gunned past a car, or was it 2?!! We were only a second or so behind him!. But also when we were 4 up in the 456. Wow, that really was an education! You spoke my thoughts as you summed it up back from the driving the 456, standing outside the garage staring at his two GORGEOUS red cars: "Jammy", perfect!!

I have already started my part of your "advertising campaign"!, my neighbour on one side has a 348 and the other is looking to buy a 355 (copycat!). Not sure but I think the 348 guy might be genuinely interested. Do you have any business cards that you could leave with me so I can hand out?

Kevin, your 456 sounds amazing. Going through Hatfield tunnel the 456 sounded IMO much better than the 360. Its so loud, but with the right balance of bass. And it looks so goddamn good in red, scuderia shields and red calipers, absolutely perfect spec. Anjay recorded the 456 at a side angle and it looks sooo mean and muscular, wow what a car!!

Your 360 is just a weapon. It looks like a spaceship, I keep replaying your 360 behind me some distance inside Hatfield tunnel, suddenly hearing the load bark of the engine and seeing the gap between us close so quickly. It looks amazing, absolutely beautiful words cannot do it justice.

Side by side in Hatfield tunnel? Makes me smile everytime I think about it. The pace of the 360 is unreal, 355 is pants next to it! What an amazing noise. Did you notice the girls in the blue convertible waving and clapping? (not sure if they were blowing kisses too, like to think they were )

Thank you also for inviting us back to your house, the cars parked on the drive looked fantastic. Its was a pleasure to have met your wife (who is really cool BTW, IMO a Ferrari fan aswell!) and the 2 little ones. If you do need any rugs, you are more than welcome to visit me in Wembley, you'll be looked after as a friend and it would be a pleasure to reciprocal your kindness. If you've seen something that you like anywhere, get the details (size and type of rug) let me know and I promise you will be amazed! We've got over 20,000 pieces (all handmade!) in stock and you can try out as many combinations as you like until you find the one for you.

I quote "I am not a test driver or anything"... Well, you could have fooled me! When we left the pub, I thought "Good at least I won't have to drive like a psycho to keep up with this guy". We got to your place and my knuckles were white! What a pleasure to see a Ferrari being driven so well! Seeing you race up to the Diablo like a heat seeking missile was, well I am lost for words. I KNOW for a fact that you would have whipped his ass!

Thanks to all of you guys for a great day, and yes we MUST do that again. Do I think I am now ready to die? Well yes, but for one exception... I've got a feeling Kevin's going to get a F50 pretty soon, and not to mention Manu's 575 is lurking somewhere is the future soon. Now that would be a shame to miss!!

ps.here's the link to Steve Harrisons post, this had me in tears!

I'm sorry but I just had to add your post Ninja, about the gorgeous 456 and its sound....

On the final run through hatfield tunnel, before we got there, the 456GT RIPPED past at some unbelievable speed BUT THE SOUND!!!! OH MY GOD - Kevin are you ready for my verdict?
GROUP C RACECAR.... fabulous.
It could obviously do with more volume but then I WOULD SAY THAT!!!!

To be honest ninja I didn't notice any girls waving, clapping or blowing kisses (DAMN IT!!!!). I was too busy wrenching my head of the headrest - I knew the 360 was fast but that is ridiculous... from the passenger seat it feels shocking - some way more acclerative than a 550 - a weapon indeed.

Ninja - I'll send you an email mate - and Kevin I can't wait to see that video - did it manage to capture the noise? Wish I could have done a better job as the cameraman but it really is an impossible task.
Hey Ninja - judging by their dads performance I reckon Kevin should buy his kids a go-cart - successful careers in motor racing beckon for both young jammies.

Ninja - if your neighbour wants a system for his 348 I'll give him the same deal I'd give you - thanks mate!

Incidentally I was completely exhausted after yesterday - what with you guys doing the driving I can't imagine how you felt...

Kevin, Ninja

Ajay and I have just watched the video of the Hatfield fest........

Thanks for sending it over Kevin. We are going to have to do that again - this time with a digital camcorder, well prepared cameramen AND a few Tubis/ Hamanns (and perhaps even some test pipes for your 456!!!!)

I 'm actually grinning like a wolf as I type this.... and I think I'm going to watch it again for the 10th time!

AWESOME!!!

Manu

Got the video and pics. Thanks again Kevin, very kind of you.

Manu, you're not too bad as a cameraman, could be a career path if it wasn't for your current one of improving how Ferrari's sound!!

The cars look and sound great. The 456 looks wonderful but we really should have taken more of the 360! Some good overtaking moves weren't been captured.

Definitely has to be done again. Look forward to seeing you all again for the next one, or maybe at the FOC concours meeting if I can make it. Are you guys going?

Any Ferrari guys going to the Porsche drive. I'd love to be there but I may be a little busy - but then again.......

BTW: Ninja - I am almost 100% sure I saw you in the Spyder last night at about half past midnight in the west end - coming off Berkley (sp?) Square, up Conduit Street, towards Regent..
I'm sure it was you!
