I traded in my 4.2 XKR for this at the weekend:
5.0 XKR with speed pack and the right options, black interior. Was sort of expecting it to just be the same but a bit faster and a firmer ride but it's definitely an overall upgrade - almost everything has been improved, the interior is much better quality, the build seems better, handling is definitely sharper and more precise, the engine is obviously stronger and more responsive, the gearbox is sharper, the infotainment is about the only thing pretty much carried over directly from the old one (although the colour scheme is now more pleasant). Loving it so far, will get some better photos when I get a chance.

Wonder how the weight compares to the old one as this is Aluminium?

So was the old one - it was a X150 XKR, 2008. I believe that the 5.0 cars are a bit heavier than the 4.2 X150s though, between the firmer steering and suspension the car does feel heavier in a way. The old car did a lot to hide its' weight but it would still become apparent if you pushed too hard on twisty, undulating roads - it could end up feeling like one of those mechanical rodeo bulls if you took too big a liberty with it. The new car feels less like it attempts to hide it's weight but more like it manages it better and the end result, bizarrely, feels more like a sports car than a big GT, everything is more direct and predictable.Wonder how the weight compares to the old one as this is Aluminium?
As I type currently having a few bits and bobs done at the Jag specialist,Doncaster, and will return with a sparky set of Sepangs as well.
There’s a bit of a back story to my ownership, it made Readers Car of the Week because of it ....i

Since deciding to keep my XK8 I thought I should really start sorting it out properly. Having owned it for 12 months I have hardly used it so first job was a ABS/Adaptive Cruise control issue which was a rotor tooth missing.
When it was in for the work (not my usual garage) the guy said you have rust on the inner wings and I would need to drop the axles to sort it out.
When I took it home and took the wheel arch covers off I was more than please to see nothing but a bit of surface rust that came off with a wire brush.
Wheels are being refurbed and will be back tomorrow in Silver which will stop it looking like a pimp mobile.

Got my wheels back and the quality is poor to be honest they don't look great up close.
Also not 100% convinced about the clear lenses either.

I checked its MOT history and it had an advisory about Chassis mods. Turns out to be the Leaper on the bonnet. If that's true the examiner needs taking out behind the garage if he thinks the bonnet forms part of the ChassisGassing Station | Jaguar | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
