We're big fans of big Jags here at PH. From Sheds, to Heroes, to contemporary super saloons, we like them all. What we like most of all, though, is PHer sjc's thread explaining how and why he came to own our Reader's Car of the Week.
While childhood experience of his father's XJ has clearly played a large part in the development of his passion for cars, sjc seems to have been drawn to rather more driver focussed machines when it comes to his own garage. Having owned a line up of TVRs and Nobles that would make any PHer proud - as well as a Holden HSV GTS-R and a Maserati Granturismo S - it's fair to say he's driven some pretty special stuff, but his latest purchase may just outdo all of them.
Under particularly sad circumstances, sjc set out on a mission to find himself an XJ worthy of making his own, and boy did he do that. Having started life on lease to the Royal Household (!) the long wheelbase XJ he bought then found its way into the possession of an unbelievably caring owner. An owner who spent a five figure sum restoring the car to its former glory, despite it being just a decade old - but unfortunately didn't live to see the project completed. No doubt he would've been pleased to see sjc take it on though, and happy to know that it had played its part in such a touching story.
