who do you think you are lecturing on 'grammar skills'?

why don't i use capitals - very simple i was an architect in the days when you wrote on actual paper not typing into a computer

capital letters were only ever used when you were describing a proprietary product/trade name - eg British Gypsum

old habits die hard - when i write by hand i use block capitals for everything because its very neat/tidy and legible and i can write very quickly

i have had literally hundreds on comments about how neat and pleasing to the eye people find my handwritten 'style'

thank you but if i don't know who is posting it means nothing?

whats the 'refund' - i don't recall paying a membership fee for pistonheads?

as i said if he has a point to make then contact me in person - its the courteous thing to do

and if it was a 'warning' then i suggest he looks at some other threads because i'm not exactly happy when people threaten me for basically nothing

Not sure it was "basically nothing" was it? So come on, what does ethnicity have to do with this and why should we care?

hehe

like I said previously, it was an obvious (!) use of humour.

As per get your coat when you weren't ever wearing a coat. Etc.

hehe

It's basic information provision conveyed and worded as a warning, not a carefully crafted invitation to a social event! Feel free to ignore/complain officially etc. Good luck.

And as I also mentioned previously, a public warning serves to educate a wider audience.

There's a Report button against all posts to alert Mods to such things, presumably you used this feature in the instances you referred to above?

Happy posting smile

i have no argument with you

if i try and explain what i mean it would only cause more controversy so i'll leave it at that

heck i did not even mention which 'ethnic group' i was alluding to but it was enough for some to jump down my neck

BUT

some threads have shown out and out racism /nationalism from all sides and have largely been allowed to run for i suggest entertainment value?

of course i don't use any 'report button' - i stopped running to teacher when i was about six years old

i let people say what they want whether i agree/disagree with them - within legal constraints

i'd happily enter into dialogue with a member of ISIS - better in the open than hidden in backrooms?

people these days are getting frightened to say anything that does not meet 'imagined' pc acceptance

we are being stifled in every aspect of life

Nat West made another cock up the other day - oops there i made a mistake was was told i cannot say 'cock up'?

then i said please just sort it out as it's not 'exactly bloody rocket science' - told stop swearing at me!

Newark and Sherwood Council - i said 'bull ste' and was told this call must be terminated, lol

yet was only the other day talking to a 'politician' and as it was off the record he was effing and blinding

the bloody country has gone pc mad - when it suits

perfect example on here with the auto censor - i used .te not .it - big difference

but 'bloody' is ok?

yet on tv even at 7pm most swear words are allowed, even on daytime tv and after 9pm anything goes

Of course, it's no such thing.

If nobody clicks on [report], it's possible nothing will happen (iimediately). You cannot possibly expect Mods to be scanning every post in every thread in every forum.

Using the [report] facility is, essentially, a form of self-policing within the forums, which is an adult approach.

i'd rather let people say what they really think/feel - i'd certainly not be offended

i apply one simple rule to posting online - i never post anything i would not say to person's face

stick to that and you won't go wrong

Interesting. I don't pretend to have a good grasp on correct grammar, but I always thought I was written as I.

You may go wrong on PH, and it looks as though you've discovered that already. PH posting rules don't involve and are therefore not limited to your personal code.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/rules.htm

Personally, I enjoy regular PH bantercourse and learn a lot from other contributors, so I'd prefer to take note of a humorous but obvious warning. YMMV.

true enough, but in architectural writing in the 'paper days' I and 1 are easily confused - hence the use of lower case i

thanks for your comments - as said i have no issues with you and appreciate your observations

but still think mr moderator could have adopted a personal approach rather than trying to be 'smart' in an online post whilst not identifying himself?

anyway - must dash as i've just had a bking for not submitting a review of some items and if i don't get off my arse it will miss the press deadline

take care - no ill feelings from me

I got pulled for 95 in a 40 a while back. Stern telling off, brown pants and I was on my way again. Guess I got lucky.

Wow.

What relevance does that have at all?

The guys a plum for driving quick, your generalisations/assumptions about his ethnicity are embarrassing.

Sure was. Don't think I even touched the speed limit for a week or so after.

That's all beside the point though, it was 85 in a 30!

Willy Nilly said:
Not really. I can think of a 30 limit to a small town where the traffic flow is 50 and going up hill. It's quite wide, if you had a reasonably powerful car or modest bike 90 wouldn't be a problem at all, or dangerous. 90 outside my house would be tricky, even in the wee small ours due to the nature of the road no matter what the speed limit was.

There are now an awful lot of speed limits that in no way reflect the road they are on.
This issue is that the knives are already out out for him because 30 means built up area, kids, fluffy bunnies when in reality it now means there might be a house 200 yards away from the road. There are 30 limits and 30 limits. If the OP can get up to 85 (probably showing 90), the limit is probably a lot too low.
Not being pernickety but no it doesn't.

Recently there were some roadworks on the A38 just after Carkeel (Saltash) in the "gateway zone" which is normally 50mph. They reduced the speed limit here to 30mph which was fair enough. Not only did they reduce that limit to 30, but extended it all the way down to the Saltash tunnel. The normal speed limit between the tunnel and the Carkeel roundabouts is 70mph. The carnage caused by this was ridiculous with your normal suspects trying to do 70 weaving in and out of traffic, while Dorris in her Micra sits in the overtaking lane at 30mph cause she's turning right at the roundabouts and 30's the speed limit.

After a few near misses I phoned up the highways agency and finally got a call back from engineer in charge of the work. Chapter 8 regs state that the maximum speed reduction for a road that is normally 70mph, is down to 40 in extreme circumstances. He didn't deny this, instead just replied that it was done now (so wouldn't be reconsidered) and that it was for continuity's sake to make sure that drivers didn't have to think about their speed - it would be 30mph (regardless of where the works are and type of road) for 3-4 miles!

It wasn't worth discussing with him - he's an idiot. But I did chuckle, because in 10 weeks I saw the police in that stretch once. They're normally doing speed checks a couple of times a week!
