RE: Pebble Beach round-up
Monday 19th August 2013
Pebble Beach is a lavish motoring event for the great and good of the automotive world. Maybe next year, eh? However, we can bring you all the important news to emerge from sunny California over the weekend.
Pebble Beach round-up
Quick catch-up with the headlines from America's swankiest car show
RM Auctions held a sale of the Concours d’Elegance with some predictably wonderful machinery. A Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spyder made $27.5 million on Saturday, eclipsing the $9 million paid for a 375MM Spider the day before. A pair of Mercedes 300 SLs (a Gullwing and Roadster) also made $1.4 million each.
Away from the auctions, some interesting new cars made their debuts also. As well as the BMW M4, Spyker Venator Spyder, Pebble Beach played host to the global debut of the Aston Vanquish Volante.
Bugatti wheeled out another Veyron Gran Sport Vitesse, the first of six ‘Legends’ editions. The first, named the GSV, is dedicated to former Bugatti racer Jean-Pierre Wimille; just three GSVs will be produced. Surely those who wanted a Veyron have one by now?
Those after a more exclusive 1,000hp plus supercar might do well to look at the Galpin Auto Sports GTR1, another Pebble Beach debutant. Described as "a vision of what the Ford GT may have looked and performed like today”, it makes 1,038hp and 738lb ft from Ford’s 5.4-litre V8 (with two turbos). At least six GTR1s will be made, say Galpin, but no more than 24; each customer will have to pay at least $1million (£639,345).

I don't understand the Veyron anymore. They don't make a profit on them, do they? So all the special editions are sheer vanity.
not strictly true, they don't make a profit on the project as a whole once you take development into account but they do make money on the material cost of production for each unit so every one they sell reduces their defecit a bit, ergo it is worthwhile trotting them out...there was also this Moroccan supercar with 1750hp (when fueled with Ron 110) otherwise 1.200hp,
on less than 1.300kg mostly carbonfiber panels.
they want to build 9 cars
Its called the Laraki Epitome and based (but you can't see it) on a C6 Corvette.

How do they expect it to stand out when it looks like every other car out there? on less than 1.300kg mostly carbonfiber panels.
