RE: Evora S Sports Racer: Intro
Discussion
Its interesting that what a journalist writes makes such headline news, I don't care what these guys think, often they are so wrong. By that I mean in 'their opinion' which to be honest is no different to yours or mine. Perhaps the biggest difference is the ability to access many cars on loan, mix with the marketing guys and then spout their biases as they have the ability to string words together to create an article.
Critical thoughts from me I know, but its curious there are now 5 parts to the Evora story according to the piston heads journalists, this must make this a very worthy car to write about.
I am not going to say the Evora or lotus is the best car or manufacturer in history but it beats the pants of having a mundano of any description, also owning one you know you have something special with Porsch as nice as they are are common as well........muck. Adding to that the reputation you get with certain cars and drivers ( sounds like I will get flamed here)
What ever car I am in I love to explore its foibles, it's handling (or not as the case may be)
For me for now the Evora is one heck of a comfy car yet its is stonkingly quick on the road and if you have been on track you know it can get brutal (for a novice track person)
Does it have flaws yes, are they liveable yes but so has every other car on the market, we are lucky to be in a moment of time when Lotus produced the Evora go get one Boys and Girls you won't regret it.........Ever

Can I just say, I've never driven a Lotus either.
So if someone wants to drop their keys off tomorrow to rectify such a heinous crime, I'd be forced to reluctantly accept a test drive.
Might I suggest that you either arrange a test drive or hire a Lotus for a day. Great way to get to know things for yourself. So if someone wants to drop their keys off tomorrow to rectify such a heinous crime, I'd be forced to reluctantly accept a test drive.

Read the updates with interest. Observations: 1) shameful that 2 PH hacks have never driven a Lotus until now
Indeed. Loses all journalistic credibility to me. How any motoring hack, let alone a couple, can give a proper comparison and review of sports cars when having never driven what is often considered the pinnacle comparable for handling in a road car is simply staggering to me. It's not as though it's a bizarre little known leftfield choice either. I'm utterly baffled. RoverP6B said:
I actually prefer the body colour roof and would not want it any lower... you also have to remember, 6ft is only average, and some of us 6-footers are longer in the spine and shorter in the leg than others.
6' is hardly average. Average height for a man in England in 2010 was only 5'9 (5'10 for men in their late teens/early 20s). Shnozz said:

It does make you question what they write about the performance/handling/feedback etc of other PH worthy cars.
Perhaps if more journalists had experience of driving the cars from Hethel, the reviews of the products from Germany would have a different perspective.

This is why I have to shake my head a bit when you read on here about cars like the Evora and GT86 having "useless" rear seats (or the Elise being too small) and it turns out the person posting the comment is 6'2 or more. Any Dealer bold enough to try to convert a Cayman owner ? The proposition, exchange my "just run-in" Cayman S for an Evora for a couple of days, if the Evora is in my view a demonstrably better car than the Cayman, which many people on the forums insist is the case, I'll buy one from you, ( assuming you help me dispose of the Porsche ) in orange like the fabulous looking one belonging to Dave211.
You can use my Cayman to prepare your defence for future sales ?
There is a Lotus Dealer not five miles from my house, from whom I've bought a number of new Lotus cars and numerous others .......

But to offer opinion on a subject matter, under the guise of being employed as a motoring journalist, not a "readers wives" article, and having been doing that job for 10+ years, I find it staggering that neither have driven what could be considered the benchmark.

Ads a proud Lotus owner and fan, I wouldn't say an Evora is better than a Cayman/911, just has different strengths and weaknesses. You pay`s your money and takes your choice.
For me these cars are about driver involvement and pleasure, and having driven a Boxster S recently (the only benchmark I have) I can say for me I have the right car.

the Evora ... struggles against the Stuttgart offerings in terms of build quality...
I write this as the proud owner of a 997 c2 and an Evora...
Can you identify the problems that you have had arising out of build quality with the Lotus and if you have had any problems with the Porsche?I write this as the proud owner of a 997 c2 and an Evora...

There are times when the Evora is not practical.
I just parked at Tesco in Bishops Cleeve, when I can back to the car the spaces on both sides were occupied and I couldn't open the door wide enough to squeeze my fat arse in. If the car didnt have such wide sills it would have been ok.
Problem solved by reaching in, releasing the handbrake and rolling the car out of the space.
Don't really care though, had a most enjoyable drive home

Aha a local lad. Was it you that flashed the other day on the A46 ? Forgive the late response but I'm not used to seeing other Evoras on the road
Were you in the orange one? If so, yes it was me, I live in Dumbleton, where abouts are you?Edited by Dave211 on Thursday 1st May 22:48
Edited to add
Just looked at your profile and answered my own question - Yours is orange. It looked great. I really wanted orange but I couldnt find one and was under time pressure, so I went for storm titatnium with tubular exhaust.
There are a few local PH meets, do you ever go?

A frequently used technique in my Elise. Also useful when you just need to move the car a few yards.
