RE: BMW M3 and M4: Review
Discussion
Same old Pistonheads wittering on about synthesized engine notes, how it's too fast for the road and how it looks too much/little like the regular M-Sport version. Just like every single BMW thread
The review hails the M3/M3 as "a stirring return to form for an M division we’d feared had lost the plot a little" - this is what should be focussed on! I'd like the M4 in Sakhir Orange please

I had a 997 without PSE prior to my M5 and also a 335i (on a 61 plate) and to be honest the M5 makes no less noise than either windows down and driving around.
I'm not really sure what some owners/posters are after, the F10 M5 without doubt has sufficient noise within the cabin without becoming annoying and I understand from friends it sound bloody awesome from the outside, especially when in M2 which opens the butterfly valves on the end of the pipes. That is also very noticeable within the cabin, be it piped or real.
I do open my window to listen when I can (especially through tunnels) but let's face it, those who own a £150k fezza do the same and there engine noise isn't piped as far as I know!
My wife drove mine past me yesterday, I was surprised by how loud and awesome it sounded pootling about.I'm not really sure what some owners/posters are after, the F10 M5 without doubt has sufficient noise within the cabin without becoming annoying and I understand from friends it sound bloody awesome from the outside, especially when in M2 which opens the butterfly valves on the end of the pipes. To reinforce this it, I've found it really is pretty loud in tunnels, especially with the sunroof open. Lovely deep bassy noise, and the gunshot crack shifting 2nd to 3rd is ridiculous!
Far louder than an e90 M3 externally, when you look at all the seals on the doors it explains where some of the noise goes in the cabin.

sound is soul and the M3 sounds very weak, i do not understand why bmw have so much problem with this and have to resort to scamming their customers with fake engine sound, especially when AMG have no issues what so every making their cars sing like angels, angels who have been on meth and crack all bank holiday weekend The review hails the M3/M3 as "a stirring return to form for an M division we’d feared had lost the plot a little" - this is what should be focussed on! I remember when the V8 M3 was launched, plenty of people here critisised it, heres the article;
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=412...
Even the 1M was dismissed at first by plenty of people on here;
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=23&...
Now that BMW has announced its going back to the six cylinder engine route, plenty of people are wking over the V8 again, fking hell, make your minds up.
I bet anyone any money in the world, that in 6-7 whatever years time, when the new M3/M4 comes out, people will praise this one like there's no tomorrow.
I'm 100% sure this will be a great car, and the first time I've preferred saloon over coupe, looks a bit more 'thuggish'. Though I have to say, the black one in the article does look the business

Same with the M5. Many people moaned about the E60 saying it didn't have enough low down torque, too thirsty and the SMG gearbox too raw. The F10 comes out which addresses these concerns and the same people then moan it's too sanitized! http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=412...

£20k in 4 years time, eh i dont think so...
Any PCPs on these yet with GFV after 4 years @15k pa? When did the E92 M3 drop below £30k?
List new price of mine was around 65k. I bought it for 42k 1yr old with 13k. Sold it privately in proper excellent condition (bodywork detailed, full service history etc etc) 3.5yrs old for 28k.
I don't think I would like to dump 30k+ over 3 yrs for the privilege of driving one from new. Especially as it would probably be difficult to reach that threshold as it would get stolen in 20s with the help of a PC and BMW weak security system prior to that..
@Amir,
You're wrong, compare these 2 video clips of the same M135i

That black M4 looks st hot, BMW have been getting a load of stick with regards to their styling these last few years, but the current M3, M4, M235i and the 3 series estate look cracking to me - I could gladly own any of them and not be dis-pleased at what I had to look at on the drive way ever day.
I approve,

Is it me or does the manual sound better? I know they have the same exhaust but it sounds different.
Love them both. I admire what they've done here, so much performance balanced with increased economy and drop in emissions. The 0-60 time alone is not far off the figures that would have looked tasty on a supercar only a few years back. Someone might have a point about it being a bit too fast but hey, we are on pistonheads right?

This is my biggest issue with non-limited production M-cars.. huge depreciation. Much more so than "equivalent" Porkers. I had a E92 V8 DCT, ran it for 2yrs and 20k miles.. lost quite a big chunk despite buying it used in the first place and perfect spec (black/black, EDC, 19' all the other essential bits)..

Your example doesn't show what the 1st owner actually paid he wouldn't have paid anywhere near that list, my m3 was 63k list and I paid 45k new, so 28k after 3 years is pretty good, I think you over paid at 1 years old. Porsche suffer the same fate I'm afraid unless it's a GT, don't be fooled by the OPC pricing on second hand 911's the trade in values are not good, I lost plenty on my 911 over 3 years 32k.

I may be wrong, but the engine noise is real, just piped into the car via the speakers?
ergo 100% fake compare to AMGs in car sound system
