So, I've been one of those praising ADAC to the rooftops - but it looks like they've decided not to return the favour.

In the five years I've been a member, I've called them three times - twice in the UK, once in France, and not at all for more than two years. So when I just got my renewal through, I thought the lower amount being requested was some kind of good-behaviour discount.

Nope, turns out it's the Germany-only membership fee, because they won't offer me ADAC Plus (pan-Euro) any more because of "recent cases of damage"...?!?

So. Anybody got any alternative? I don't really want to pay a lot more than the £70ish that I thought I was going to be paying, and I do want pan-Euro personal cover for two of us, with no restriction on age of vehicles. I can't believe they're really the only game in town.

I had the same problem with ADAC a few years back, having had a few breakdowns.

We swapped to their German competitor and got the same deal, possibly slightly cheaper;

https://www.ace-online.de/

Cannot tell you too much more about it, I got the Mrs to deal with it as her Deutsch ist besser als meiner.

Ta. They'd come up as a possible - but no confirmation that they'd take non-D residents.

I think I heard something about AXA (or maybe one of the other French outfits), but can't find anything again. Sod's law.

Not sure if this is quite what you're after, but I took out "Flux Rescue" for my trip to France last year in my '91 Eunos Roadster as they were the only reasonable priced option I could find. I think I paid around £70 for it. I've not actually had to use it, but there are some people who have here, that seem to be happy with the level of service:

I'm planning to renew it again for this years France trip, too.

They do take non - D residents, we are in London.

Ben, the ADAC/ACE cover is about £80 for the whole year and covers you across UK and Europe, which is why it's such a good deal. ADAC use the AA in the UK for their callouts.

Have a look at Nationwides packaged current account. We've got joint home/assist/relay and pan European for £120 pa. Worth it for that alone, let alone the Family Travel Insurance, gadget cover, legal cover and fee free foreign debit card withdrawls that you also get.

I get UK & Euro breakdown cover on my classic insurance policy, maybe they could extend this sort of thing to personal rather than vehicle cover (have the same thing on my motorhome insurance policy) . . .

Thanks, that was the thread I was thinking of.

But you said that there was nothing comparable on their website. Is that a standalone breakdown policy, or is it insurance-related?

The provider has changed recently, the previous provider was very good. I'm hoping this one is as well.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by your second question. Whatever it is it's the fully monty including repatriation, hotel costs etc. just give them a call and tell them what you want. On the website the Euro cover is normally time limited but what I have is full euro cover for a whole year policy term.

Sorry - I probably should have worded my post differently. The Flux Rescue I took out was cover for the year, not just a single trip. It's only for a single vehicle though and I suspect it won't be the AA that come out to you in the UK, so doesn't sound as good as ADAC (which I wasn't aware of at the time I took it out).

Based on what you're saying, I'll probably look into changing to ADAC when it runs out now! :-)

That's weird. I've been a member for 4 yrs, have called them out 7 times and have not had difficulty renewing. Mind you I'm based on the mainland, maybe the AA cross charge them a mint?

A couple of yrs ago I tried to join ADAC, based on recommendation here. It took ages for a reply and then they made it quite clear they didn't want UK business. They suggested I found cover locally.

Sorry, I meant "Is it a breakdown cover product you bought, or is it car insurance that includes breakdown cover?"

It's a totally separate product. It's not related to my car insurance. I choose not to buy those bundled with car insurance.

<shrug> A friend suggested they heard I'd bought an old Landy, so they were being pre-emptive.
