230mph Keating Berus set for 2017 launch

Yep, Keating is back at it! Fresh details on its latest supercar

Let's jump straight to the stats: a V8 engine producing more than 650hp. A 0-62mph time of 2.4 seconds. A top speed in excess of 230mph. And that's from a car made in Bolton.

Before we get too excited, it's worth reminding ourselves about Keating's history. The small-time northern firm showed its first car, the TKR track car, at the 2006 London motor show. Developed in partnership with the University of Bolton, the SKR road car followed, and in 2011 the company revealed the Keating ZKR at the Top Marques show in Monaco.

A glimpse into the future?
A glimpse into the future?
These all borrowed parts from the Saleen S7 and Pagani Zonda and looked a little, er, homemade. But, using a 7.0-litre GM V8, they were fast - producing more than 2,000hp in twin-turbocharged form, and good for 0-62mph in around 2.0 seconds.

Unveiled at a special ceremony in 2013, the Keating Bolt was apparently good for - wait for it - a 340mph top speed. Horsepower figures from the usual 7.0-litre V8 varied dramatically, with some mooting as much as 2,500hp - combined with a 990kg kerb weight. With a £750,000 price tag, reception was cold, and the project was spiked.

So what stage is the ambitious manufacturer at today? Set to unveil the Keating Berus at the Monaco Top Marques show in April 2017, the V8 will be joined by an electric version packing more than 1,000lb ft of torque.

Keating Supercars CEO, Dr Anthony Keating, says that "the Berus's namesake is reflected in its design; including the lights which resemble those of a snake and the front which appears to display the snake's fangs."

Keating, a proud University of Bolton alumnus, adds: "The car is engineered, designed and will be built in Bolton."

So far only a half-scale model has been built, revealed at a special event held at the Prince of Wales hotel in Stockport. Will the real thing ever make it to customers? We'll be watching with interest.

It looks a little like a Lotus Elise, minus a few front end bits.

I was thinking Exige but I see where you are coming from.

As for the project, publicity for the University and no more than that.

Liquidators form an orderly queue at the company gates - don't think you will have to wait too long.

Homemade? The car was displayed at the London show with a bloody flat tyre biggrin Also - were those numbers ever confirmed by anyone? From what I recall the general consensus was that they just made them up.

I get worried when their car render looks worse than what I did in 30 seconds to see how just my rear wing looked. And I'm st at rendering.
