I'm sure its a very nice toy, but on the wrong side of ridiculous.

Out of the total number made, how many do you guys think will ACTUALLY be used as "regular" cars. Regular as in, not giving a st about damaging resale due to putting "too many" miles on it?

Because I suspect the vast majority of these are investment vehicles masquerading as cars. Which is a damned shame.

And if we're talking about vehicles that have a high level of performance that CAN actually be used without worrying about resale, well, I'm sure there are plenty, if only one uses ones imagination (Ultima GTR has ~1000 kg and ~1000 bhp, so twice the power to weight ratio, and costs around £100k built from the factory to turn key specs).
There's so few of these cars, I imagine residuals wont be killed by using them. Sure racking up 70K in a year might affect it a touch. But this is the "nice day" car. And ime most "nice day" cars don't do that many miles generally anyway

As for even mentioning a plastic badly made Ultima in the same post as a Singer tells us you must be very young

I've only recently started to fall for the 964 shape and I'm loving the ethos behind these re-imaginings. The technologies implemented in this version just represent the natural conclusion as to how far the 964 can be brought up to date to me and it's definitely the type of thing I would enjoy being part of, if only I could, as I love the tinkering and improving aspect of car ownership.

I think this is the classiest interior I've seen in one so far, all be it in a PS Autoart;

What kind of residual does a bespoke car have? Why would I want to buy one second hand when I can have one built to *my* specs?

Sure, it has pedigree and cachet but it's in a niche within a niche within a niche. You have to be seriously wealthy and an aircooled 911 freak to want and to be able to own one of these. Good luck to Singer et al.

Afik there is one owner on here bought the 'France' car used and has posted pics of it.

Guessing a used one is new cost or more though given the likely waiting list. Might be quicker to buy and then respec if you wanted.

When the waiting list is (afaik) 2 years plus. People will happily buy a pre-owned car and have it re-specced slightly.

I don't think you understand well heeled Porsche collectors laugh There's a lot of them and relatively few cars. Sellers market with the premiums that come with that.

I suspect pretty good ones given the long waiting list. Not many Singers have traded and none I know the price of, but there is one for sale at the moment in the U.K. - POA though so no clue how much, suspect a lot though

And yes I fully agree - I would rather wait and order to my spec than buy a finished one. ordering and speccing it is likely to be a very enjoyable experience.

I would rather have an Autoart car than a Singer, if truth be told. The Singers seem just a bit too ‘precious’ for me (I’m probably not expressing myself very well, here). The Autoart cars just seem more usable and for that reason alone, more desirable to me.

That and they’re only up the A12, and it’s always good to buy locally grown produce biggrin

Not sure if whoosh parrot but the writer of the original piece seems unaware that Singer are named after Norbert Singer

Originally they wanted to call their car the Norbert but - well - Singer works better ;0

As for the car - what Singer do absolutely fascinates me, they create fantastic things which exude detail and care and are just gobsmacking - only snag is the absolutely BONKERS cost.

There are people making really nice, really usable 911s for a tiny fraction of the cost of a Singer so if all you want is to drive it, there's those

In the same way you can make a really nice track E-Type for a LOT less than the continuation lightweights

In the same way that a £1 digital watch from a petrol station tells the time as-well-as a £10K handmade watch

Horses for courses...

Oh the joys of backstories -

https://www.total911.com/singer-vehicle-design/

"“Hayden Burvill – who runs WEVO – and I had a meeting about the concept, I think it was in early 2008,” Rob elucidates. “He suggested that any mule we used to test our ideas should be named ‘Norbert’ [after Norbert Singer].

“I thought it might be offensive, but I did like ‘Singer’. I liked the relevance: celebrating the air-cooled flat six, which has a definite song and, of course, I was the singer in a band for years.”"

You're not going to tell someone from Forbes about Norbert Singer are you - they'd zone out and say "OH YAH" before hanging-up and writing a story about perfume...

There's no-such-thing as a bad video where Rob D. talks about his cars - personal faves might be

I think I've taken to the 964 because it manages to look right which ever way it's interpreted. They look lovely when kept simple but still manage to look brilliant when given the sort of treatment this one has.

I've always been aware of the 964 but it's never grabbed me like it does now.

If you do Facebook follow Singer they post lots of pics of their commissions and they are all quite lovely things.
